8/9 – 8/10, through 12/31: Partial Closures of Parking Lot, ADA Spaces North of Plageman

As part of the Jen-Hsun & Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex project, the south-west section of the Park Terrace St. East parking lot, located just north of Plageman Hall, will be closed for restriping and construction prep work.

This is a two-part closure. The restriping work will occur on Wednesday, August 9 and Thursday, August 10. The impacted section of the parking lot will then reopen. The second closure will impact the ADA and reserved parking spaces closest to Plageman and will be in effect through December 31. This section will be enclosed with construction fencing, which will extend onto the sidewalk on the east side of SW Park Terrace Place.

The construction fencing enclosure will obstruct a small section of the sidewalk on either side of the first parking lot entrance north of Plageman. The walkway along the north side of Plageman, bordering the ADA parking spaces, will also be closed through December 31.

The map shows two closures in the Park Terrace St. East parking lot, just north of Plageman Student Health Center. The first closure is marked for restriping work. The second closure is marked as a fenced area around the ADA and reserved parking spaces, bordering the north side of Plageman. This closure also includes a small section of sidewalk on either side of the first parking lot entrance north of Plageman and the walkway along the north side of the building, bordering the ADA parking spaces.

8/1 – 8/31: Kerr Admin Building Sidewalk & South Entrance Closure

As part of the Kerr South Parking Lot project, the south entrance of the Kerr Administration Building will be closed along with the south sidewalk, the ADA ramp and the west walkway. This closure will be in effect through August 31.

ADA access will be maintained via the east entrance between the Kerr A and B buildings.

The sidewalk east of the building along SW 15th St. will also remain closed (see previous notification). Other possible impacts include noise, dust and mud near the work site.

The map shows a closure along the west and south walkways at the Kerr Admin Building. The ADA ramp and the south entrance to the building are marked as closed. The sidewalk east of the building along SW 15th St. is also marked as closed. An ADA access route is marked on the north side of the building, leading to the east entrance.

8/2: Planned Power Outage at Rogers Hall

A planned power outage will impact the 2nd floor of Rogers Hall on Wednesday, August 2 from 7:30 – 8:30 A.M.

What do you need to do to prepare for this outage? Please make sure that all computers, printers, copiers and other electronic devices are turned off prior to Wednesday, August 2. If you have an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), also known as a battery back-up, please be sure to turn it off as well. 

Employees scheduled to work when buildings are without power should consult with their supervisors regarding work schedules. For more information regarding work scheduling, please refer to the instructions regarding Interruptions of University Operations.

Scheduled: Fire Alarm & Sprinkler Testing 7/31-8/4 2023

Scheduled: Fire Alarm & Sprinkler Testing

Effective Date(s): July 31st-August 4th, 2023

Convergint will be conducting annual fire alarm & sprinkler testing.  Testing will take place in the buildings listed below.  The testing will be brief and include both sounding of alarms and strobes. As part of the testing building occupants may notice occasional beeping coming from the fire panel and horns and strobe lights activating throughout the building.  Signage will be posted on exterior doors while testing is being conducted.

7/27/23-TBD: Kelley Engineering Center Emergency Generator Shutdown

8/1/23 Update: Kelley generator has been repaired and is back in service.

7/27/23 Update: A temporary backup generator has been connected to the building.

Due to a mechanical failure, the Kelley Engineering Center backup generator has been taken offline. This will affect any system in the building requiring backup power only if there is an actual power outage. Crews are working on locating a temporary backup generator large enough for the building until repairs can be completed. An additional notice will be sent out when a temporary backup generator is located and connected to the building.

8/8/2023: Planned power outage for Pharmacy, Gladys Valley Center, Furman Hall and Hattie Redmond Women & Gender Center

As part of the Community Hall Slope project, there will be a planned power outage impacting Pharmacy, Gladys Valley Center, Furman Hall and Hattie Redmond Women and Gender Center on Tuesday, August 8 from 5 A.M. to 8 A.M. Pharmacy will have backup power.

What do you need to do to prepare for this outage? Please make sure that all computers, printers, copiers and other electronic devices are turned off prior to Tuesday, August 8. If you have an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), also known as a battery back-up, please be sure to turn it off as well.

8/1-8/4/2023: Loud, sudden construction sounds around the Valley Library area

As part of the Valley Library Cell Tower Replacement project, crews will be mounting anchors into the Valley Library roof. This will create a loud, sudden, and repetitive firework-like noise during the time period. The noise will be audible inside the library as well as in the areas surrounding the library.

An example of what the noise will sound like is in this video. Public Safety is aware of this work. Please forward this message to anyone in the area who may be affected.
