A planned power outage will impact the 2nd floor of Rogers Hall on Wednesday, August 2 from 7:30 – 8:30 A.M.

What do you need to do to prepare for this outage? Please make sure that all computers, printers, copiers and other electronic devices are turned off prior to Wednesday, August 2. If you have an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), also known as a battery back-up, please be sure to turn it off as well. 

Employees scheduled to work when buildings are without power should consult with their supervisors regarding work schedules. For more information regarding work scheduling, please refer to the instructions regarding Interruptions of University Operations.

Scheduled: Fire Alarm & Sprinkler Testing

Effective Date(s): July 31st-August 4th, 2023

Convergint will be conducting annual fire alarm & sprinkler testing.  Testing will take place in the buildings listed below.  The testing will be brief and include both sounding of alarms and strobes. As part of the testing building occupants may notice occasional beeping coming from the fire panel and horns and strobe lights activating throughout the building.  Signage will be posted on exterior doors while testing is being conducted.

As part of the LaSells Stewart Center Mechanical & Roof Renewal Project, a section of SW Stadium Ave. located directly behind The LaSells Stewart Center and just south of Bloss Hall will be closed to allow for crane activity on Thursday, August 10 from 7 A.M. to 3:30 P.M. The B2 parking lot east of The LaSells Stewart Center will also be closed. The entrance to SW Stadium Ave. from SW Western Blvd. will be closed. Both the east and west sidewalks on Stadium Ave. directly behind The LaSells Stewart Center will be closed. A vehicle detour will be available from Western Blvd. along the east and north side of the LaSells Stewart Center East parking lot.

As part of the Pedestrian/Bicycle Priority Zone project – Phase 1, SW 26th Street will be closed for restriping between SW Jefferson Way and SW Campus Way and between SW Campus way and NW Orchard Ave. The ADA and service parking spots along SW 26th Street bordering the MU Quad will be closed. Sidewalk access will be open and east/west access on SW Campus and SW Jefferson Ways will be open. The closure will occur August 10 and August 11.

As part of typical maintenance done by Pacific Power, there will be short duration impacts to the path of travel in various locations on campus on 7/31 through 8/2. The locations include:

  • Southwest corner of SW 30th Street and SW Campus Way
  • Southwest corner of SW 26th Street and SWCampus Way
  • On the east side of SW 35th Street, just north of SW Jefferson Way
  • Parking Garage Access and May Way Loading Zone – operations will be flagged
  • Multi-use path west of SW 26th Street, on the south side of SW Washington Way

There will be impacts to the access of the Parking Garage and May Way loading zone, as well as minor sidewalk access impacts.

8/1/23 Update: Kelley generator has been repaired and is back in service.

7/27/23 Update: A temporary backup generator has been connected to the building.

Due to a mechanical failure, the Kelley Engineering Center backup generator has been taken offline. This will affect any system in the building requiring backup power only if there is an actual power outage. Crews are working on locating a temporary backup generator large enough for the building until repairs can be completed. An additional notice will be sent out when a temporary backup generator is located and connected to the building.

As part of the Community Hall Slope project, there will be a planned power outage impacting Pharmacy, Gladys Valley Center, Furman Hall and Hattie Redmond Women and Gender Center on Tuesday, August 8 from 5 A.M. to 8 A.M. Pharmacy will have backup power.

As part of the Valley Library Cell Tower Replacement project, crews will be mounting anchors into the Valley Library roof. This will create a loud, sudden, and repetitive firework-like noise during the time period. The noise will be audible inside the library as well as in the areas surrounding the library.

As part of the Student Legacy Park Resurfacing project, a pick-up truck and trailer will temporarily block the northbound lane on SW Benton Place, directly in front of the McAlexander Fieldhouse main entrance, on Thursday, July 27 & Friday, July 28 for various short intervals throughout both days. The truck will be picking up materials from McAlexander Fieldhouse and each pick-up will take approximately 30 minutes for loading.

Additionally, the loading zone and double doors on the south end of McAlexander Fieldhouse will be occupied during this project. Access to the batting cage door will be maintained. The west sidewalk along Benton Place and the crosswalk in front of McAlexander Fieldhouse will remain open for pedestrians. The southbound lane will remain open for vehicles.
