This is an update on the Jen-Hsun Huang and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex project.

The project site is located between Johnson Hall and NW Monroe Avenue and is bordered by SW 26th St. on the west and SW Memorial Place on the east.

Construction activity in the area will significantly increase starting Monday, April 29. Occupants of neighboring buildings and those traveling through the area should expect an increase in truck traffic and other activity, including an increase in construction-related noise.

As part of the Jen-Hsun Huang & Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex project, Kelley Engineering Center will be closed to allow for a planned power outage on Tuesday, April 23 from 4:00 – 8:00 A.M. The outage is necessary to establish temporary electrical service for construction at the Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex site.

What do you need to do to prepare for this outage? 
Please make sure that all computers, printers, copiers and other electronic devices are turned off prior to Tuesday, April 23. If you have an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), also known as a battery back-up, please be sure to turn it off as well.

As part of the Jen-Hsun & Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex project, the Park Terrace St. East and Park Terrace St. West (A2) parking lots will be permanently closed, starting Monday, March 18. The impacted parking lots are located north of Johnson Hall and Plageman Student Health Center.

SW Park Terrace Place will also be permanently closed north of Plageman Student Health Center. Construction fencing will be placed around the area in preparation for further construction activity.

Pedestrian impacts

  • A section of the south sidewalk on Monroe Ave. between 26th St. and Memorial Place will be closed for the duration of the project.
    • Pedestrians may cross Monroe Ave. at 26th St. or Memorial Place and use the north sidewalk as a detour.
  • A section of the east sidewalk on 26th St. between Johnson Hall and the CEOAS Administration Building will be closed.
    • Pedestrians may use the west sidewalk and the crosswalk at the CEOAS Administration building as a detour.
  • The walkway between Johnson Hall and Plageman Student Health Center be closed.
  • The walkway south of the Lonnie B. Harris Black Cultural Center will be closed.
  • The walkway north of Johnson Hall will be closed.

The north-south crosswalk on Orchard Ave. will be closed for pedestrians. The sidewalks in the area will remain open, except for a section of sidewalk on the east side of the intersection, directly in front of Johnson Hall. The loading dock north of Johnson Hall will be closed except for pre-arranged deliveries.

Bike lanes in the area will be closed.

As part of early work for the Jen-Hsun & Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex project, sidewalks on the north, south and east sides of Johnson Hall will be closed to pedestrians from Monday, December 18 through January 5, 2024.

Sidewalks closed on the south, north and east side of Johnson Hall from December 18 until January 5.

As part of the Jen-Hsun & Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex project, a section of the west sidewalk along SW Park Terrace Place will be permanently closed to allow for ongoing construction activities. The closure will begin Thursday, November 30. The impacted sidewalk section is located just north of Johnson Hall. This will be a permanent closure as the area undergoes construction related to the Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex.

The east sidewalk will be open for pedestrians. Other possible impacts include noise, dust and mud near the work site.

As part of the Jen-Hsun & Lori Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex project, soil sampling work will occur around and near the Lonnie B. Harris Black Cultural Center from Monday, June 26 through Wednesday, June 28. Multiple parking spaces on the north end of the A2 parking lot west of the building will be closed. The rest of the parking lot will remain open. The work will require periodic closures to the Center’s patio area. The sidewalks bordering NW Monroe Avenue to the north and SW Memorial Place to the east will not be impacted. The sidewalks on the west and south sides of the Center may be temporarily unavailable due to equipment needs. Other possible impacts include noise near the work site.
