As part of the Washington Way Improvement project, Washington Way between 17th– 35th Streets will be closed for water line installation/testing and paving (weather permitting). Work is expected to begin immediately and continue in phases through the end of January 2023.

Please refer to the schedule below for exact dates and locations:

12/27 & 12/28: Full closure of Washington Way from 26th – 30th Streets, the 30th St. intersection (all directions) & from 30th – 35th Streets.

12/29: Full closure of Washington Way between 17th – 26th Streets.

Note: flagged intersection at 26th St. will allow north-south traffic to pass

12/29/22 – 01/31/23: Full closure of Washington Way between 30th – 35th Streets for water line installation.

New Effective Date: Monday, December 19th, 2022 from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Due to weather conditions and employee training needs at the asphalt plant, the closure of Washington Way between 17th & 26th Street planned for Friday, December 16th has been postponed until Monday, December 19th from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Washington Way Construction Impacts 12/12-12/16

As part of the Washington Way Improvement Projectsignificant traffic impacts will occur the week of December 12 through December 16, 2022, along and near SW Washington Way:

  • Monday 12/12/22 – The intersection of SW 26th Street & SW Washington Way will be flagged. Only northbound traffic will be allowed on SW 26th Street north of SW Washington Way to SW Intramural Way.
  • 12/13/22 – The intersection of SW 26th St & SW Washington Way will be closed for waterline installation.
  • 12/14 & 12/15 – SW Washington Way closed from 26th Street to 30th Street for waterline installation.
  • Friday 12/16/22 – SW Washington Way closed from 17th Street to 26th Street & 26th Street to 30th Street for paving. The intersection at 26th Street & Washington Way will be open.

As part of the Washington Way Improvement Project,  SW Washington Way will have intermittent flagging operations at various locations throughout the days, one location at a time, to turn off water valves as part of the water line replacement. Water service to facilities will not be affected except for the previously announced shutdown at the Large Animal Resource Center. The locations of flagging operations will be the intersections of Washington Way and SW 35th, SW 26th and SW 17th Streets.

As part of the Washington Way Improvement Project, there will be a water service shutdown at the Lab Animal Resources Center to perform work related to the new water main being installed along Washington Way. Work is scheduled to take place between 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. on Monday, November 28, 2022.

As part of the Washington Way Improvement Project, there will be a water supply shutdown at the Vet Research Lab to perform work related to the new water main being installed along Washington Way. Work is scheduled to take place between 7:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. on Monday, November 14, 2022.
