This is an update on a water pipeline and road improvement project led by the city of Corvallis. Work is expected to continue through September 2025.

Special update

Full closure of SW 35th St. at the Oak Creek bridge starts on Monday, August 4th. The bridge will remain fully closed to ALL traffic, including emergency vehicles, through Friday, August 22. A second closure at the railroad crossing at SW 35th St. and Washington Way is tentatively scheduled for the last week of August. Detours will be in place. SW 35th St. will remain open to traffic on both the north and south sides of the bridge, but no traffic will be allowed to cross. The bridge will remain closed overnight and through weekends. Bike lanes on SW 35th St. will be closed. Sidewalks will remain open.

Paving work will also occur on Western Blvd. during this time frame and traffic impacts in this area are expected. More information about the SW 35th St. closures will be communicated by Friday, August 1.

Planned projects for the week of July 28 – Aug. 1

  • Sidewalk ADA ramp work will continue at SW 15th St. and Western Blvd.

Traffic & travel impacts

  • Both SW 35th St. and Western Blvd. will remain open to vehicle traffic this week.
    • Lane shifts/closures will be in place to create work zones on Western Blvd between SW 15 – 26th St.
    • Bicyclists may be directed to ride with traffic through work zones.
    • Pedestrian detours may be in effect at the Western Blvd./15th St. intersection.
  • Changes to city bus stops will be in effect.

As part of the Washington Way Improvement Project, the walkway around the sand volleyball courts at Dixon Recreation Center will be closed on Tuesday, July 29 and Wednesday, July 30. Pedestrians may use the sidewalks along SW 26th St. and Washington Way as a detour around the closure area.

Other possible impacts include noise, dust and mud near the work area.

As part of the Kelley District Utility Plant project, Kelley Engineering Center will be closed for a planned power outage. The building closure and power outage will begin at 5:00 A.M. on Friday, August 1 and end at 5:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 2.

All systems connected to emergency generators will continue to operate during this power outage. The building will be closed to all but the construction team, Facilities Services, and personnel monitoring the server room. Signs will be posted and doors will be locked.

What do you need to do to prepare for this outage? 

Please ensure that all electronic devices not connected to emergency power are powered down and that all computers, printers, copiers and other electronic devices are turned off prior to Friday, August 1. If you have an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), also known as a battery back-up, please be sure to turn it off as well. 

Employees scheduled to work when buildings are without power should consult with their supervisors regarding work schedules. For more information regarding work scheduling, please refer to the instructions regarding Interruptions of University Operations.

As part of the Jen-Hsun Huang and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex project, SW 26th St. will be closed between SW Campus Way and NW Monroe Ave. on Wednesday, July 23 from 5:30 A.M until 6:30 A.M.

After the road reopens, flaggers will be present to direct traffic throughout the day.

  • Electrical work will occur at the SW 15th St./Western Blvd. traffic signal mid-week. See notes below for Wednesday, July 23.

  • Both SW 35th St. and Western Blvd. will remain open to vehicle traffic.
    • Lane shifts/closures will be in place to create work zones on Western Blvd.
  • Wednesday, July 23: traffic signal at SW 15th St./Western Blvd. will shut down and become a 4-way stop. Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction. Temporary stop signs will be in place.  
  • Changes to city bus stops will be in effect.
  • Sidewalks may be unavailable at various times in this area and pedestrians will be directed to detour.

As part of the Jen-Hsun Huang and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex project, a crane will be working in the area between Johnson Hall and Plageman Student Health Center on Tuesday, July 22. Traffic on SW 26th St. will be controlled by flaggers at times to allow truck access to the Johnson Hall fire lane.

This project may increase construction noise in the area.

      • Please use caution when traveling through this area.
    • Flaggers will be present at times to direct traffic on Western Blvd.
  • Changes to city bus stops will be in effect.
  • Bicyclists will be directed to ride with traffic through marked work zones.
  • Sidewalks may be unavailable at various times in these areas and pedestrians will be directed to detour.

As part of the Jen-Hsun Huang and Lori Mills Huang Collaborative Innovation Complex project, a vacuum truck will be excavating the area adjacent to Dawes House and the CEOAS Administrative Building starting Tuesday, July 15 through Thursday, July 17. This work will increase construction noise for building occupants and the surrounding area.

Flaggers may be present at times on NW Monroe Ave. to direct traffic around the work zone.
