Convergint will be conducting annual fire alarm & sprinkler testing. Testing will take place in the buildings listed below. The testing will be brief and include both sounding of alarms and strobes. As part of the testing building occupants may notice occasional beeping coming from the fire panel and horns and strobe lights activating throughout the building. Signage will be posted on exterior doors while testing is being conducted.

This is an update to a previous notification.

Most parking spaces and sidewalks will be reopened for use with four spots on the west side closed for a boom lift through Wednesday, April 3.  ADA access to Fairbanks Hall is open on the east side of the building.  ADA access is closed on the west side of Fairbanks Hall through Wednesday, April 3.

As part of the Fairbanks Hall Renovation project, the Fairbanks Hall West parking lot will be closed starting Thursday, March 21 through Friday, March 29 for gutter work on the building. All ADA parking spaces in the parking lot will be closed.

The sidewalks and walkways bordering Fairbanks Hall on all sides of the building will be closed in phases to allow for equipment to be maneuvered around the area. These closures will be intermittent. This includes the walkways on the north and west sides of Fairbanks Hall, the west sidewalk on 26th St.  and the north sidewalk on Jefferson Way.

Staff will be present in the area to help pedestrians navigate around the sidewalk closures. Pedestrians may use the east sidewalk on 26th St., the south sidewalk on Jefferson Way or the walkway west of the Asian & Pacific Cultural Center as alternate routes.

Access to the parking lot will be available for trash and recycling pickup.

The map shows a parking lot and sidewalk closure at Fairbanks Hall. The sidewalks and walkways bordering Fairbanks Hall on all sides of the building, including along SW 26th St. and SW Jefferson Way, are marked as closed. The parking lot west of the building is marked as closed.

As part of the Fairbanks Hall Renovation project, several parking spaces will be closed on the west side of Fairbanks Hall on Saturday, February 24 from 7 A.M. to 3 P.M. This closure involves the loading dock, two reserved spaces and one service space. The ADA parking spaces and EV charging stations will not be impacted. This closure is necessary to allow for a lift truck and work happening on the Fairbanks Hall gutters.

Effective Date(s): Saturday, March 25 through Monday, March 27

As part of the Fairbanks Hall Renovation project, there will be a planned power outage from Saturday, March 25 through Monday, March 27. The new, permanent generator for the building will be installed during this time. Fairbanks Hall will be closed to the public during the outage.

Building power will be restored no later than end of day on Monday, March 27. 

Two Art Department reserved parking spaces will be unavailable during this power outage. Signs will be posted. Cars may be towed.

What do you need to do to prepare for this outage? Please make sure that all computers, printers, copiers, and other electronic devices are turned off prior to Saturday, March 25. If you have an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS), also known as a battery back-up, please be sure to turn it off as well. The building will not have network connectivity during this power outage, i.e. no wireless, wired internet or VoIP phone connectivity. Anything that relies on the network will not be functional.

Employees scheduled to work when buildings are without power should consult with their supervisors regarding work schedules. For more information regarding work scheduling, please refer to the instructions regarding Interruptions of University Operations.

As part of the Fairbanks Hall renovation project, the parking lot west of Fairbanks Hall will be closed for Winter Break to allow for scheduled contractor work to be executed efficiently.

Spaces with EV stations and ADA spaces located in this lot will be offline for use.

As part of the Fairbanks Hall Renovation Project, the parking lot west of Fairbanks Hall and the bike racks north of Fairbanks Hall will be closed for storm drain work, which includes VacEx truck work. VacEx truck work can be noisy. Work is scheduled to take place between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, November 11, 2022 (view map).

As part of the Fairbanks Hall Renovation Project, demolition of the old Fairbanks Annex existing concrete pad, along with the preparation and placement of new concrete for a new transformer pad by the Women’s Building, will occur onsite during the week of Spring Break from Monday, March 21, 2022 through Friday, March 25, 2022.

What to expect:

  • The sidewalk located between the Women’s Building and Fairbanks Hall will be temporarily closed starting Monday, March 21, 2022 through Friday, March 25, 2022.
  • There will be truck traffic in and out of the Fairbanks Hall worksite using the 35th Street/Jefferson Way route. 
  • Expect noise as existing concrete is broken up, demolished and hauled away. The concrete breaking activities will start no earlier than 8 a.m.
