Offices – Boston, New York

Foley Hoag’s Intellectual Property Department has an opening in our Boston or New York office for a chemist with an advanced degree, preferably a Ph.D., in Chemistry.

We seek applicants with strong academic credentials, excellent verbal and written communication skills. Both entry-level and experienced candidates will be considered. Experience preparing and prosecuting patent applications in the areas of small molecules, pharmaceuticals, synthetic methods, polymer science and drug discovery would be useful, but is not necessary. A successful candidate who is not a registered patent agent will be expected to take and to pass the USPTO registration exam within a year of being hired. Candidates are encouraged to review the USPTO eligibility criteria prior to applying.

We staff our clients’ patent matters leanly, affording patent agents and technical specialists an opportunity for significant responsibility and excellent career development. They typically work one-on-one with associates and partners, gain a depth of experience in a broad range of patent strategy, drafting, prosecution and diligence matters, and get immediate client contact. Such experience has contributed to the firm’s consistently excellent rankings in various national satisfaction surveys and industry recognition lists.
