Can a city outsmart microscopic invaders?

[Care] DOE ENERGY FRONTIER RESEARCH CENTERS (EFRC) Limited Submission
The DOE SC program in Basic Energy Sciences (BES) announces a re-competition of the Energy Frontier Research Center (EFRC) program and encourages both new and renewal applications. Applications from multi-disciplinary teams will be required to propose discovery science and use-inspired basic research that addresses priority research directions and opportunities identified by a series of BES workshop and roundtable reports. The focus of the EFRC program is on fundamental scientific research, therefore applications to this FOA must not propose applied research and technology development activities. BES is soliciting renewal applications for basic science in three topical areas: 1) Transformative manufacturing, 2) Quantum information science (QIS), and 3) Environmental management. BES is soliciting new applications for basic science in two topical areas: 1) Co-design of materials and processes to revolutionize microelectronics and/or QIS fabrication, and 2) Environmental management. DOE anticipates that award sizes will range from $2,000,000 per year to $4,000,000 per year

Call for Nominations: NCFDD Summer ’24 Faculty Success Program
Once again, the Office of Faculty Affairs is providing matching funds for 8-10 faculty members to participate in the NCFDD Faculty Success Program. If you would like to nominate someone from your college for the Summer 2024 session (May 20 – July 28, 2024), please confirm their interest and availability to participate. Once confirmed, please submit the faculty member’s name, rank, and email address to me no later than March 7, 2024. They are offering a substantial discount of $1000 per seat for extra early registration, bringing the cost down to $4150 per participant (your cost $2075 per participant).
We will submit an institutionally sponsored registration form from our office (please do not register via the NCFDD website).

Hydrocarbon Research: Proposal Submission Opening February 12th
The next proposal submission window for the ACS Petroleum Research Fund (PRF) opens on Monday, February 12, 2024 and closes on Friday, March 8, 2024 (5:00 PM EST).
Proposals must focus on fundamental petroleum research, including research related to petroleum-derived materials in one of ten specified subject matter areas. It is important to note that while the PRF Trust imposes restrictions, PRF currently funds various topics of interest in sustainability and green chemistry. These topics include new catalysts and the upgrading/utilization of methane and carbon dioxide. For more information on supported research areas or eligibility, interested individuals are encouraged to contact a PRF program officer or prfinfo@acs.org.
Grant programs are available for new professors starting their first tenure track position (DNI), as well as established tenured or tenure-track professors exploring a new research direction (ND) at doctoral degree granting departments. Separate grant programs exist for qualified professors in non-doctoral departments (UNI, UR). Departments of successful UR and UNI grant applications will be invited to apply for a competitive $25,000 supplement funds. Supplements aim to enhance research activities, capabilities, and engagement at the department. Applications are made through a web-based portal, and additional information can be found at www.acsprf.org.

2023-2024 Disability Accommodation Memo

Canvas and Remote Teaching Material Accessibility Courses created in Canvas, as well as electronic documents and media, need to be accessible for students with disabilities. Multiple OSU offices have developed resources on making materials accessible. Resources include: Canvas – Improving Accessibility in Your Course; Ally for Canvas, an accessibility checker and tool for Canvas; and Creating and Editing Captions in Kaltura and Zoom. Aira Visual Interpreting OSU has partnered with Aira, a company that provides 24-hour-a-day on-demand remote visual interpretation services for the blind and low-vision community. This new service is free for all OSU community members and visitors. ADA 31 Report and Disability Justice Framework Recently, an OSU task force completed an ADA 31 Report with 14 recommendations, one of which is “Encourage and support inclusive classroom and learning materials.” We encourage you to visit the ADA 31 website, learn more about the development of the OSU Disability Justice Framework, and visit the Office of Institutional Diversity’s education website to find opportunities to learn more.
