I am writing to ask for your help in identifying early career scientists and mathematicians to participate in the NextProf Science 2021 workshop being offered at the University of Michigan on May 3-6, 2021 (see attached pdf). NextProf Science is aimed at future faculty—advanced doctoral students or postdoctoral fellows who are interested in an academic career in science at an exceptional academic research institution and who have demonstrated a commitment to diversity.

The U-M College of Literature, Science, and Arts natural science departments will invite up to 50 future faculty participants to the U-M campus to show them the rewards of an academic career, help them understand the faculty search process, and connect them with faculty in their research area, as well as academic leaders, and other participants. The NextProf Science  workshop is free to participants, who must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Unfortunately, due to the Covid pandemic, this year the NextProf workshop will be organized in a fully virtual form.

Find the online application and additional information about the on the NextProf Science website at: sites.lsa.umich.edu/nextprof-science/

The deadline to receive all applications and reference letters is: January 25, 2021. Please distribute this information to qualified individuals you would like to encourage to apply to the NextProf workshop. Also please forward this message to faculty colleagues who might know of potential applicants.

If you have general questions about the program or application process, please contact um-nextprof-science@umich.edu. For questions specific to the chemistry-focused activities, please contact me directly at zgid@umich.edu

The OSU Women’s Giving Circle is inviting you to submit a grant proposal to be awarded in May 2021. Proposals must enhance the OSU undergraduate student experience and improve student retention and directly impact as many OSU students as possible. The Department of Chemistry at the University of Portland invites applicants for an Instructor position to begin August 15, 2021. Primary teaching responsibilities will consist of three organic chemistry courses (laboratory and lecture) per semester. The successful candidate will also have administrative responsibilities to coordinate the organic chemistry laboratory courses, which includes curriculum development, supervision of laboratory preparation, ordering chemicals and supplies, compliance with waste disposal regulations, and hiring and supervision of adjunct instructors and student teaching assistants.

The position is open now; to receive full consideration, please submit a completed application by February 1, 2021

For more information and to apply for this position: https://up.hiretouch.com/job-details?jobid=66190.

I wanted to reach out to advertise a Toxicology intern position we have open at HP. I see that you are listed in the EMT directory as program administrative support, so you may have a better point of contact you can point me towards. Would you or someone within the department be able spearhead distributing this opportunity though the EMT network?

My personal view is that this would be a great paid opportunity for well qualified undergraduates to learn and develop the skill sets required of a regulatory toxicologist in a corporate environment. This is a very interesting field with career opportunities that are not highlighted effectively in the department. One project will involve the analysis of test data across 18 toxicological endpoints to evaluate known and unknown risk for candidate chemicals to be used in new products using the GreenScreen for Safer Chemicals method (a very interesting project).

I realize that the timing of the holidays and finals may complicate getting the word out but interested students should apply quickly as we are looking to close the process in January.

We are looking for

·       An active student in 3rd year or above, pursuing their bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemistry or Toxicology.  The ideal candidate is one that is on track to graduate from university studies in 2021 or 2022.  Toxicology or Chemistry as a major or minor is highly desired

·       The position requires 10-20 hours/week (max), throughout the academic year; outside the academic year, the position would be full time

·       Students with an interest in corporate sustainability and
