information about an opportunity for researchers from EPSCoR jurisdictions to gain information about the US Department of Defense program, DEPSCoR. DEPSCoR Day is an outreach event that allows the research community to engage with DoD program officers and DEPSCoR staff through informational sessions, posters, and speed networking.

The University of Oklahoma colleges of engineeringarts & sciences, and atmospheric and geographic sciences are pleased to host a regional DEPSCoR outreach meeting on Thursday, April 25, in the National Weather Center, located on the University of Oklahoma’s Norman campus. The Oklahoma Aerospace and Defense Innovation Institute is a financial sponsor.

There is no cost or required resident status to attend but registration is required at https://epscor.ou.edu/.

The Agenda provides additional details about conference topics and the program officers who are planning to attend. Posters will be visible throughout the event, which includes a poster session from 1:45-2:45 pm. Requests to share your poster are made through the registration link.

We are also coordinating with US Air Force research partners in Department 70 (sustainment, software directorate, advanced manufacturing, radar, weather) to encourage their participation with focus on projects at Tinker, Robbins, Hill, Peterson, and Offutt AFBs.

If you are not sure whether to come, I’d love to discuss potential benefits, research center tours, and discussions with OU Faculty about potential research. We hope to spark some exciting research collaboration.

The University of Oklahoma is situated on the traditional home of the “Hasinais” Caddo Nation and “Kirikirʔi:s” Wichita & Affiliated Tribes. This territory once also served as a hunting ground, trade exchange point, and migration route for the Apache, Comanche, Kiowa and Osage nations. We seek to honor and uplift the history, narratives, and lived realities of these Indigenous people and the communities who have formed connections in this space.

UC Davis has an open faculty position for a chemist that may be very attractive to some of your students or postdocs.  The Department of Viticulture and Enology, the top “wine” department globally, is looking for a chemist.  This is a chance for someone who wants to do applied chemistry on a very challenging but rewarding topic.  The Department hopes to attract someone who can bring some new technology to the world of wine chemistry.  The position might be best described as a natural product chemist, but with applications that include flavor and stability, but with environmental inputs, e.g. weather effects the composition of grapes, and thus the flavor of the resulting wine. Collaborations with microbiologists, plant physiologists, food engineers and sensory scientists are expected and encouraged.

I would appreciate it if you could pass this position description along to students and postdocs in your Department who are in the job market.  The deadline for full consideration is April 1, 2024
