Developed in collaboration with the Office of Equal Opportunity and Access and the Office of Institutional Diversity, this 25-minute online training focuses on how to conduct a successful search. Highlights of the content include: –OSU’s hiring philosophy. –Key steps at each stage of a search. –Roles and responsibilities of search committee members. –Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action in the hiring process. –Bias mitigation. –Important resources such as the New Employee Onboarding website. New material in this online training complements OSU’s existing Search Advocate training and is recommended to be completed by all supervisors, search committee chairs and search committee members. HR’s Recruitment team and HR Strategic Partners are available to answer questions about the material or facilitate search committee discussions about how best to implement best practices. You will be asked for your ONID credentials if you are not already logged in, then taken to Bridge, the OSU Learning Management System. An e-certificate will be generated by Bridge when you have completed the online course. We anticipate regularly updating the online course material. REU opportunity
For summer 2023 we will host 10 NSF REU visiting research students at BYU. The only requirement is that students have completed general chemistry. The program pays students $6,000 for 10 weeks of research, provides free housing, and paid travel to and from BYU.
Future of Semiconductors (NSF)call for proposals
NSF released an amended call for proposals for the future of semiconductors (FuSe). The deadline is April 24, 2023.

The goal of this solicitation is to cultivate a broad coalition of researchers and educators from across science and engineering communities that utilizes a holistic, co-design approach to fundamental research and workforce education and training, to enable rapid progress in new semiconductor technologies. The future of semiconductor manufacturing will require the design and deployment of diverse new technologies in materials, chemical and materials processes, devices, and architectures through the development of application-driven systems.
Partnerships between industry and academic institutions are essential to spur innovation and technology transfer, to inform the research needs, and to train the future workforce.

NSF will fund ~ 20 FuSe Research and Education Grants to be awarded as Standard awards or Continuing grants for periods of up to three years and at up to $2M per grant.
Department of Energy Announces $125 Million for Research to Enable Next-Generation Batteries and Energy
DOE announced a limited submission call for basic research on rechargeable batteries to provide foundational knowledge needed to transform and decarbonize our energy system through the development and adoption of cost-effective and clean energy sources. Please see below for more information.

PCOSW scholarships
Applications for PCOSW scholarships to fund winter and spring term projects are now being accepted. The President’s Commission on the Status of Women provides funding to faculty, students and staff who are pursuing professional development, research, outreach or creative projects related to gender equity issues. The maximum amount offered is $1,000, although scholarships average $300, and funds are paid by reimbursement. Applications are due Sunday, Feb. 19. General Education Implementation
The Learning Outcome, Criteria, and Rationale (LOCR) Committee invites the university community to provide feedback on the LOCRs faculty have created through a listening session. Participants will learn about the LOCR creation process, preview LOCR drafts, engage in conversation and provide feedback. Your college’s participation and collaboration will help inform the final LOCRs we propose to the Faculty Senate for adoption. All listening sessions will be held on Zoom. Registration is required, though participants can register at the time of the meeting and still gain access. Feb. 6, 2-3:30 p.m. and Feb. 7, 1-2:30 p.m.
