Please join us for the 2018 College of Science Teaching and Advising Awards Ceremony to recognize exceptional teaching and advising, hallmarks of faculty excellence and the foundation of student success. •  Olaf Boedtker Award for Excellence in Academic Advising
•  Loyd F. Carter Awards for Outstanding and Inspirational Teaching in Science

Welcome TEAM MATH!

We have a special presentation by Team Math, a group of mathematics faculty who came together for four months for the initial development work to redesign the curricula of introductory math courses and effectively to transform college algebra. Since last spring, they have seen impressive results with solid improvements in student retention, performance and engagement. They will share the technology, active learning approaches and student performance measurements they used to improve student success. The project received funding from a Gates Foundation grant through the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities.

Enrich your lab with Honors College undergraduates

We are pleased to announce the annual College of Science + Honors College Research Mixer happening this Friday, February 2, from 3-5 p.m. in LINC 228. This is your chance to get motivated high-achieving students in your lab to work with you and your team.

 

Bring a slide to present your work, and your best one-minute spiel to excite and inspire undergraduates about the research in your lab. After presentations there will be an hour to interact with students eager to work with you.

 

Doing research is one of the most important ways to improve a student’s educational experience in college. The outcomes are powerful and positive because faculty can engage in broader impact projects, mentor future scientists, or at least get some SOPs standardized!

Get paid for full-time summer undergraduate research!

Are you thinking about the next step to advance your academic and professional goals? The Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (SURE) is a fantastic way to do that. Apply for the SURE Science scholarship to work on exciting research projects in labs across campus. SURE Science scholars receive a stipend of $5,500 each to pursue 11 weeks of paid full-time summer research that complements and deepens their classroom learning.  
Who should apply? SURE Science is open to any College of Science undergraduate who will be returning to OSU in the fall. 
Join us for this one-hour Info Session on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, 6-7 p.m.in Kearney 112. Learn tips about how to connect with research faculty whose work interests you, the new application process, and get any questions you have about the SURE Science program answered. Our team of experienced professionals will guide you on how to identify interesting research opportunities on campus and connect with professors.

chemistry alumni on campus Jan 25 for OSU Alumni panel

This is a nice opportunity to hear from several recent graduates of the College who will be discussing their path forward after graduation.  Corey Wright (’12) will be here representing the chemistry department.  He worked in biotech after he graduated, toured the world, then returned to Corvallis to open his own company.   AlsoLena Ferguson (’17)  is a research assistant at Gene Tools, LLC.  It’s not too late to go to this event!

The President’s Commission on the Status of Women provides funding to faculty, students, and staff who are pursuing professional development, research, outreach, or creative projects related to women’s issues. Scholarships average $500.
