Vincent T. Remcho, professor of chemistry at Oregon State University, was named the 2015 Oregon scientist of the year by the Oregon Academy of Science for his contributions to his field.

Application Deadline & Summer Workshop Schedule
I wanted to let you know that applications for our Summer Science Communication Fellowship cohort aredue by May 11. The workshop dates for this round are:

Workshop 3: Tuesday, August 4, 3-6pm
Workshop 4: Tuesday, August 25, 2-6pm
Application Process & Scholarship Information
We have limited scholarship funding available, and encourage those seeking funding to apply. An online application (including the scholarship application) and further information about the Fellowship program can be found on OMSI’s website at https://www.omsi.edu/science-communication-fellowship. This page will be updated with application information and deadlines for future cohorts. We expect to run Fellowship cohorts 2-3 times per year.
Special Genomics Fellowship Scholarships
For this summer cohort, we will have special scholarship funding available for three PSU and OHSU genomics researchers. These Fellows will participate in special Meet a Scientist programs during Fall 2015 to celebrate the featured exhibit, Genome: Unlocking Life’s Code. If you are interested in this scholarship, please indicate your request to be considered for this funding in your scholarship application.
Please feel free to send this announcement to any colleagues who may have interest in the program. We also often work with researchers to incorporate this program into broader impact plans for NSF grant proposals. If you are interested in pursuing this option, please get in touch with me directly.

Description:
Forgotten at the bottom of the Periodic Table are the f-elements with the f-electrons. Not ‘what-the-f’; just ‘f’. Come find out why f-electrons in f-elements are so useful for your hybrid cars, wind energy, high-efficiency LED lightbulbs, catching counterfeiters, and so much more.
Bio:
May is an associate professor of chemistry at Oregon State University; where she and her research group study all types of metal-oxo clusters in water. May has been in the Pacific Northwest only 2.5 years; a former desert rat, and is dealing with the rain and loving the beer just fine, thank you. In the high New Mexico desert, May worked at Sandia National Laboratories for 14.5 years; but she knows no government secrets, so don’t bother asking.

Student Success Collaborative (SSC) Kickoff
Academic Advisors, Academic Counselors, Associate Deans, School and Department Chairs, Enrollment Management and other interested student success personnel are invited to attend an overview session Wednesday, April 8, 9:30-11 a.m. in the Construction & Engineering Hall in LaSells Stewart Center to learn more about the SSC, a new performance-based analytic tool OSU is implementing.
PCOSW Mentoring and Professional Development Award Nominations
The President’s Commission on the Status of Women recognizes any classified, professional faculty, or faculty member who excels in mentoring, supporting, and encouraging OSU employees, especially women and those from under-represented groups, and making available to them opportunities for professional, educational and personal development. The award is presented at University Day and consists of $500 cash, a $500 professional development fund, a nameplate in Kerr Admin, and a personal plaque. The deadline is May 1. PCOSW Scholarship Applications
Applications for the President’s Commission on the Status of Women scholarships now being accepted.The PCOSW, provides funding to women faculty, students, and staff who are pursuing professional development or research opportunities, as well as individuals conducting research related to women’s issues. Faculty Regalia Orders – Due April 15th
This is a friendly reminder that Faculty Rental Regalia Orders are due on April 15th, if you haven’t submitted yours already. Getting your order in by this date will help ensure that there are no size or hood color substitutions. Orders should be in store and ready for pick up by the end of May. The email address provided on the order form will be the address that a pick up reminder is delivered too along with any communication if there are questions about the order.
To avoid the hassle of renting each year, Jostens also offers Fine Quality regalia. Order forms for Doctorate and Masters Fine Quality regalia are available at the Beaver Store Customer Service counter, or you can email a request to faculty.regalia@osubeaverstore.com and an order form will be emailed to you. A promotional package is being offered for orders submitted by June 30th.
