The College and Career Coach at Salem’s Career Technical Education Center (CTEC) contacted me in early September asking if any of our College of Science faculty might be interested in serving on one of their advisory councils.

CTEC offers 10 different CTE programs to the juniors and seniors of Salem Keizer School District and recently realigned one of their programs to encompass biotechnology and medical sciences (https://ctec.salkeiz.k12.or.us/programs/biotechnology-medical-science).

CTEC already works with the College of Engineering faculty who serve on one of their Industry Advisory Councils. With their new alignment to biotechnology and medical careers, the Career Coach thought the College of Science faculty would provide valuable input on an advisory council. I attached the CTEC flyers that explains their councils. They did let me know that serving on an advisory council would not take a lot of time. They plan to have quarterly meetings.

Judy Fisher, CTEC Business Liaison, is the contact person if folks are interested in participating with an advisory council. fisher_judy@salkeiz.k12.or.us

I’m happy to facilitate a zoom meet-greet with the CTEC folks and our faculty if you would like me to arrange a meeting. Please let me know if the faculty are not interested so I can get back to CTEC with a response.

As an FYI, for my part, I plan to work with CTEC by conducting hands-on science activities for their students about four times during the year.
