Dear Colleagues,
The UCLA Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry is searching for a tenure-track Assistant Professor who combines excellence in research with outstanding potential as a science educator and mentor to students from groups under-represented in the physical sciences. This search is part of a cluster hire with faculty positions in the departments of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Mathematics, and Physics and Astronomy who will support UCLA’s goals of achieving federal designation as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI) as early as 2025. In preparation for this designation, the Office of the Chancellor and the Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost have sponsored this search to recruit exceptional scholars whose research, teaching, and/or mentoring has strong ties to Latinx experiences in the United States. This search is conducted as a partnership between the UCLA Chicano Studies Research Center and the UCLA College, Division of Physical Sciences. Faculty hired through this search are expected to have demonstrated excellence in research, as well as commitment to and future plans for mentoring and encouraging the success of U.S.-based Latinx and first-generation scholars and to maintain an active affiliation with the Chicano Studies Research Center. Since the Latina population is particularly under-represented in physical sciences nationwide, the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry and the Division of Physical Sciences are especially interested in candidates with the potential to serve as outstanding mentors to Latina students.
Application reviews will start on January 3, 2025.
