Position Description

The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) is seeking an innovative leader to serve as Chair in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry.  Research activities in the Department reflect all major areas of chemistry, and faculty receive extramural funding from federal and state programs, private foundations and industry. The successful candidate is expected to be an active leader and researcher who has a strong vision for developing and strengthening educational and research initiatives.  Applicants must have a distinguished record of scientific achievement, demonstrated leadership skills, and a commitment to the education and mentorship of both students and faculty. Candidates should have relevant administrative experience and an understanding of key issues affecting faculty recruitment, promotion and retention. The Department is especially interested in candidates who will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.

 

Required Qualifications

  • PhD in Chemistry (or Biochemistry with Chemistry emphasis)
  • Demonstrated leadership skills
  • Excellent management skills
  • Distinguished record of research and teaching
  • Current academic rank of tenured associate or full professor (or equivalent non-US rank)
