The Oregon State University Honors College is now accepting applications to the DeLoach Work Scholarship program for winter and spring terms, 2019. The DeLoach program enables Oregon State faculty members to support undergraduates working at tasks that enhance students’ academic training by providing a significant learning experience. Strong preference will be given to proposals that involve cooperative student-faculty research and clearly relate to the instructional, outreach, or diversity goals of the university.

Applications must be submitted by a tenured/tenure-track or senior instructor rank faculty from any college. All Honors College students are eligible to participate. Maximum awards are $1,000, with an award period of winter and spring terms, 2019. Nominated students must be enrolled at least quarter-time through the duration of the award. In past cycles, review has been highly competitive, with fewer than 50% of applications receiving funding.

To apply, faculty supervisors must submit a proposal including the following to honors.college@oregonstate.edu by Sunday, November 18th, 2018:

  • A one-page statement from the faculty supervisor describing the proposed project. Letters must also indicate how the project will support both the student’s training and the faculty member’s research and its relevance to the university’s instructional, outreach, and/or diversity goals; only projects that meet these requirements are eligible for DeLoach funding.
  • A one-page statement from the student(s) describing the importance of the proposed project in their education and training and any relevant previous experiences or preparation.
  • Endorsement from the faculty supervisor’s unit head, indicated by either signature on the faulty letter or separate email to the Honors College.

Additional details are available at http://honors.oregonstate.edu/deloach-work-scholarship. Awards are paid as scholarships to students.

Some DeLoach proposals may be supported in whole or in part by the Chambers Environmental Research Fund. Established in 1977 in memory of Richard Chambers, a pioneer in Oregon environmental protection who developed some of the earliest anti-litter legislation, this fund is intended to foster projects or research in applied environmental enhancement and/or conservation involving the preservation or betterment of Oregon’s wilderness, natural resources, or quality of life.

The DeLoach Work Scholarship was created through the generosity of Dr. and Mrs. Daniel Barton DeLoach. Dr. DeLoach was an Oregon State faculty member from 1935 to 1949.

The OSU Advantage Accelerator is seeking proposals to facilitate the further development and commercialization of OSU applied innovations. Proposals can be submitted for OSU-owned innovations developed by OSU faculty, staff, and/or graduate students in any discipline that require up to $25,000. Proposals are due no later than 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018. Read the full RFP here: https://lnkd.in/gdfJFfu .
