Do you ever wonder: “How do I grab students’ focus on learning right from the beginning of class and maintain their attention throughout the entire class period?” Funmi Amobi (CTL) and WeiWei Zhang (AT) will discuss how to apply evidence-based pedagogical practices coupled with applicable Zoom and Google tools to engage students in synchronous class sessions. April 23, noon to 12:45 p.m. Zoom: https://oregonstate.zoom.us/my/sparkshop.

Dear Solid State Chemistry Community,
It is with great pleasure that I would like to announce that the 2021 North American Solid State Chemistry Conference (NASSCC) will be hosted virtually by the faculty at USC from July 28-31, 2021.
As you may be aware, the NASSCC takes place biennially, alternating with the Gordon Research Conference on Solid State Chemistry. In contrast to the GRC meetings, the NASSCC places a stronger emphasis on oral presentations by students, postdocs, and junior faculty, while preserving the informal character of the GRC.
I am very excited about the outstanding lineup of speakers that touches on nearly every aspect of the field. You will find a list of these speakers as well as the portal for abstract submission at the link below. Please note that the deadline for abstracts has been extended to May 15 from the original announcement that went out via Twitter
https://dornsife.usc.edu/conferences/north-american-solid-state-chemistry-conference-2021/nasscc/
I would also like to make sure that everyone is aware that, in addition to the traditional oral Zoom presentations, we will be holding a virtual poster session (via https://gather.town/) as well. So please do consider submitting an abstract for that.

National and Global Scholarships Advising is hosting a series of workshops and information sessions throughout May 2021. One of these events is a Fulbright U.S. Student Program Information Session, facilitated by IIE/Fulbright staff members. LeAnn and I would greatly appreciate if you could forward this email and/or attached flyer to any students who might be interested in applying to a Fulbright grant in an upcoming competition cycle. Students can pre-register for the Zoom event using the link below. Thank you!

CUE is an annual showcase for undergraduates from all disciplines, all years of study and all stages of research to present to the OSU community. Please encourage students to present lightning talks during this two-day virtual research symposium, which will be held on May 27-28. The deadline for students to register is May 7. View details at communications.oregonstate.edu/events/cue. For more info, contact OfficeofURSA@oregonstate.edu.

OSU faculty members are invited to submit a one-page Idea Pitch to the OSU Advantage office for the chance to receive a $5k award. The Idea Pitch should answer a commercial question in the faculty member’s research such as “With this proof, I can confirm that I have unique innovative technology” or “I can confirm which industry will be interested in the outcome of this research.” Attendance at the April 21 “Innovation to Market” virtual event is required to be eligible to submit. More information is here: https://lnkd.in/g9eCCDA.
