Responsibilities

  • Learn and apply consulting strategies on a variety of occupational safety and health issues, focusing on enhancing the health and well-being of Oregon workers.
  • Assist safety and health staff with onsite consultations and analyses of a variety of policyholders’ work environments. Assess exposure to a variety of physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards, using occupational health regulations, standards, and best practices to reduce and/or eliminate safety and health risks.
  • Evaluate and document observations, analysis findings, and recommendations. Author technical reports and correspondence for policyholders; submit for internal quality review.
  • Research, analyze, and summarize occupational safety and health issues and trends using a variety of data sources and systems. Develop recommendations to improve outcomes.
  • Work with SAIF staff as needed to review, update, or create safety and health resources, web content, or training for our customers.
  • Learn about the collaboration between safety and health and workers’ compensation insurance in Oregon. Learn about stakeholders and business partners.
  • Explore diverse perspectives and consistently behave sensitively toward differences in cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating. Work effectively with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or work styles.

Required qualifications

  • Currently enrolled and pursuing a degree in occupational safety, industrial hygiene, ergonomics, nursing, public health, or environment safety and health.

Recommended qualifications

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team doing complex, confidential work.
  • Superior problem-solving, research, and writing skills demonstrating an ability to communicate complex ideas in a clear and persuasive way.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft products such as MS Office, MS Outlook, and Office 365.
  • Experience using industrial hygiene and ergonomic equipment used to assess exposures is preferred.

Program and Policy Development

  • Recommends changes to processes, incorporating good EHS practices and training, in areas such as PPE, equipment use, used equipment and waste management, spill prevention.

Program Implementation

  • Leads the implementation of EHS compliance programs in areas such as emergency preparedness, spill prevention, universal waste, ladder safety, defensive driving, aerial lift, electrical safety, PPE, hazardous material handling, emergency response and life safety.

The EHS Coordinator partners with the site’s EHS Manager to drive safety initiatives and culture at the Vancouver site. Schedule will be Tuesday – Saturday, 6:00am – 2:30pm with expected OT of normally no more than 5 hours a week but occasionally up to 15-20 hours.Responsibilities

    • Conduct EHS Investigations for accident, incident and near-miss investigations, and provide recommendations for process, procedure or equipment changes to eliminate future occurrences. Ensure completion to over 95% of on-time investigations and reporting
    • Ensure over 95% completion of all authorized and GA trainings
    • Perform and lead monthly inspections of the facility

    • Maintain the sites risk register based upon the results of the job hazard assessment

Compensation and Benefits:

  • The expected compensation range for this position is between $45,000 – $71,800.

The Emergency Preparedness Community Coordinator will support statewide behavioral health emergency preparedness and response efforts in partnership with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Community Mental Health Programs (CMHPs), and community partners. In this position, you will coordinate volunteer recruitment, training, and deployment; organize a Psychological First Aid (PFA) training program; and support the development and execution of disaster behavioral health plans that align with Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR), applicable sections of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) standards.

You will work closely with Behavioral Health Division leadership and the Behavioral Health Emergency Planner, and will play a critical role in building readiness, fostering community partnerships, and ensuring behavioral health systems remain operational and equitable during emergencies. You will perform the following key responsibilities:

  • Recruit and retain a diverse pool of volunteers for behavioral health emergency response.
  • Implement training programs in crisis counseling, PFA, and disaster behavioral health, including planning drills and exercises.
  • Coordinate with CMHPs and community partners to develop and test statewide and local emergency response plans.
  • Comply with OHA protocols, trauma-informed care principles, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Support the facilitation of cross-agency communication, community assessments, and post-event debriefings.

Overview

The Center for Climate, Health and Equity seeks highly motivated interns to join an energetic and fast-paced team. The work of this Center focuses on advancing the conversation of climate change where it intersects with health equity and justice.

This is an US-based internship, and candidates must be able to work in the US during the internship.  APHA internships are unpaid and located in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities

Interns complete research on issues, develop fact sheets, blog posts and background reports, support outreach and communication to members and partners, and contribute content to climate webpages. In addition, interns are provided opportunities to participate in relevant hearings, briefings, meetings, and webinars, as well as interact with APHA leadership and members.  Interns will also participate in Speak for Health and other association-wide events as applicable. 

All APHA interns also work on the Association’s Get Ready campaign, writing blog posts and working on group projects each semester.

Qualifications

Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for unpaid APHA internships. The internships at APHA are extremely beneficial to those seeking to acquire practical work experience in the above-mentioned areas. Candidates should be working toward a bachelors, graduate, or postgraduate degree, and all majors are welcome. Candidates should also have:
– Excellent written and oral communication skills.
– Research and analysis experience.

  • Drive procedures regarding labeling, storage, spills or disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous materials.
