Responsibilities:

  • Partner with cross-divisional stakeholders and development team members to define business requirements/user stories and acceptance criteria for all features with customer/user experience (CX/UX) impact.
  • Prioritize the product development backlog considering both CX/UX and technical criteria, working with director and Solution Delivery Managers as appropriate.
  • Create and maintain product roadmap and strategy, reflecting and incorporating program, division and corporate strategies.
  • Partner with enterprise stakeholders to solicit and incorporate other feedback from customers and external partners to inform product roadmap planning.
  • Collaborate closely with Solution Delivery Managers to ensure the product and technical strategies are in alignment.

  • Support the program lead in the business analysis for build vs. buy decisions, ensuring that the product roadmap optimizes decisions around internal development vs. licensing.

  • Analyze the impact of new solutions on existing operations and provide recommendations on potential operational and organizational changes.
  • Support the program lead in exploration of partnerships and emerging technologies to optimize value for SAIF’s business strategy.
  • Analyze usage data, customer feedback, and usability testing to recommend improvements to the user experience.
  • Keep apprised of the latest industry standards and trends in the areas of application development, process automation, and operational innovation in delivering software solutions.

Job Highlights

The HSE Manager is responsible for coordinating, implementing, and maintaining all Environmental, Health, Safety, and Security Mangement efforts at the Kalama Site.  This will be done within the full scope and requirements of LANXESS company standards; Local, State, and Federal regulations, including OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and ISO 14001.  This position will be a member of the Site Leadership Team, champion the safe work culture, and ensure safe work habits and behaviours are practiced by all site employees on a daily basis.  The HSE Manager must have the breadth of knowledge, leadership, and management skills to lead a team of skilled HSE professionals.  The Kalama plant is a synthetic organic chemical manufacturing site with complex operations including continuous and batch processes, hazardous waste burning boilers, and aerobic and anaerobic wastewater treatment plants.  This facility has equally complex permitting requirements for Environmental (Air, Waste, Water), Occupational Health and Safety, Process Safety, and Security functions.

  • Manage a team of eight direct reports, including two Environmental Engineers, PSM Engineer, two HSE specialists, and three HSE Admin / Front Gate Security staff.
  • Responsible to ensure that the site maintains its “License to Operate”, which means regulatory, safety, and legal compliance with all applicable Federal and State Laws, LANXESS internal standards, and Industry RAGAGEP’s.
  • Ensure that all site HSE standards and procedures are regularly reviewed, updated as necessary, and remain current.  Coordinate with HSE team to effectively communicate and train site on HSE standards and procedures.
  • Responsible for creating and managing the site Health & Safety and Environmental budgets.
  • Responsible for managing and coordinating the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and certification.

  • Responsible for developing and recording all HSSE related measurements, metrics, and KPI’s.  Performs analysis of results to trend data, identify opportunities for improvement, and commicate learnings/opportunities to site.
  • Support worker compensation claim management led by corporate resources.
  • Support review and approval process for Capital Project authorizaiton requests.
  • Responsible, with corresponding team members, for ownership of and engagement with Compliance Audits from external agencies and internal audit teams.  Responsible for assigning and tracking completion of finding corrective actions.

Requirements

  • Previous experience as HSE professional required.  Engineering degree or technical background preferred.
  • Experience with direct supervision of employees, contractors, consultants, design firms, etc.
  • Self-reliant with strong time management and prioritization skills.
  • OSHA PSM plant experience is required.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Key Responsibilities(40%) OSU SAFETY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM & EH&S AUDITS:
Using established procedures, assist departments in implementing the OSU Safety Management Program and other health and safety programs. Assistance includes, but is not limited to, performing audits, assessing hazards, investigating reports of unsafe conditions, conducting safety training, and developing safety documents and resources. Frequent visits to laboratory and non-laboratory settings where hazardous materials are stored and used will be required.
(30%) ACCIDENT FOLLOW UP & RESPIRATOR FIT TESTING: Assist program manager with accident follow up investigations and respirator fit testing. As part of our Claims team, you’ll work with adjusters, lawyers, and return-to-work consultants to evaluate an injured worker’s eligibility for vocational benefits. You’ll make service referrals, help develop and monitor training and direct placement plans, and be a technical resource for other SAIF employees. Responsibilities

  • Evaluate exposure for vocational services to provide guidance to business partners on the potential eligibility and cost of vocational services.  Ensure vocational services are provided to eligible injured workers. 
  • Establish vocational reserves and manage the payment of vocational benefits.
  • Utilize and coordinate resources and tools to ensure effective vocational claims management.
  • Actively promote return-to-work (RTW) programs as a strategy for proactive management and as a way to achieve the best outcome for injured workers.   
  • Coordinate and manage disputes and RTW plan development conferences with the Oregon Department of Consumer and Business Services.
  • Prepare and maintain data in claims tracking system, ensuring compliance with corporate policies and workers’ compensation statutes and administrative rules.
  • Support the negotiation and settlement of claims and expedite the resolution of litigation.
  • Provide technical support for vocational issues to claims adjusters, claims supervisors, and other internal and external customers to support the management of claims.
  • Participate in on-going training opportunities to maintain current vocational rehabilitation counselor certification. 
  • Explore diverse perspectives and consistently behave sensitively toward differences in cultural norms, expectations, and ways of communicating. Work effectively with others who have different perspectives, backgrounds, and/or work styles.

Maintain records of accident circumstances, photographs, notes, and documentation of follow-up recommendations/corrective actions.

(15%) RESPIRATOR and HEARING PROTECTION FIT TESTING: Coordinate respirator fit testing and hearing protection training as required or requested by the OSU community. Maintain testing records and testing equipment. Input of testing records into the EH&S management information system. Coordinate testing with Occupational Medicine as required.

(5%) ERGONOMICS: Coordinate the ergonomics program and respond to customer requests for ergonomic consultations and other resources. Utilize SAIF’s ErgoPoint software database, perform in-person ergonomic assessments, and provide follow-up as needed or requested. Also track and manage Safety In Motion training for trainers and facilitate its use within the campus community.

(5%) Perform other duties as assigned, and any administrative responsibilities, including but not limited to becoming familiar with all construction standards, relevant occupational safety & health codes, standard operating procedures, policies and procedures, follow all business rules, standard operating procedures, and administrative practices.

Minimum Qualifications: A Bachelor’s degree with primary focus (45 quarter hours or 32 semester hours) in the physical sciences; AND Two years of related professional experience in environmental, health, or safety; OR A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience, and/or professional certifications. Graduate level courses in the subject areas may be substituted, on a credit-hour basis, for a portion of the required experience. Preference may be given to applicants who have completed graduate-level courses or have additional experience in Industrial Hygiene, or in occupational, public, or environmental programs.
