The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the interdisciplinary Department of Public Health. We seek an active and engaged colleague who has research and teaching strengths in environmental health and justice (interests may include, but are not limited to, built environments, neighborhood effects, climate justice, sustainability, disaster preparedness, etc.). We encourage applications from persons with experience conducting community-based research serving particularly vulnerable, underserved, and urban populations.

Candidates should have substantive scholarly expertise in one or more defined areas and be able to develop collaborative research efforts in the metropolitan Detroit area. We seek a colleague with an active research program, track record of published scholarship, and an ability to draw on this research to inform their teaching and service. Candidates engaged in multidisciplinary research, community-based research collaborations, and environmental justice and advocacy research are encouraged to apply. We also value candidates committed to evidence-based intervention research employing traditional and non-traditional quantitative and qualitative methods (e.g., ethnography, Photovoice, and mixed methods).

Candidates will be expected to teach required courses in the undergraduate public health curriculum. The preferred candidate will have teaching strengths that support courses such as Environmental Health, Methodological Approaches in Public Health, and Social and Behavioral Aspects of Public Health. Candidates will also be encouraged to develop new elective courses
that align with their substantive area of expertise within environmental health and justice.

Candidates are also expected to perform meaningful service on department, college, and university committees; participate in departmental activities; serve their profession/discipline and/and community partners (if appropriate); and complete other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a Ph.D., DrPH, or equivalent doctoral degree with expertise in environmental health, environmental sciences, environmental justice, or closely related social/behavioral science. Persons who will have their doctoral degree conferred by August 15, 2021 are eligible to apply. Candidates who additionally possess an MPH degree in any public health discipline are highly valued. Job Summary

The City of Salem is looking to provide an opportunity for two Wastewater Treatment Plant Interns to gain hands on work experience in the operation of the city’s two wastewater plants, Willow Lake Water Pollution Control Facility and the River Road Peak Wet Weather Treatment Facility.

Willow Lake is the primary treatment facility for the City with a dry weather secondary treatment capacity of 65 mgd, a wet weather secondary treatment capacity of 95 mgd, and a peak wet weather capacity of 155 mgd.  It can be operated in trickling filter/activated sludge, conventional air activated sludge and in a combination of both processes plus selective treatment based on flow and load fluctuations. 

The River Road Peak Wet Weather Treatment Facility is a high rate, physical chemical ballasted flocculation facility with ultra-violet disinfection.  This facility is operated only when flows at the Willow Lake Facility are above 95 mgd.  Operation of this remote facility is permitted for use to prevent sanitary sewer overflows associated with wet weather.

The City’s treatment facilities serve a population equivalent of 229,000 within a three city area with an average annual flow of 45 mgd.  The facility staff of 53 employees provide Operations, Maintenance, Laboratory, Biosolids, and Administrative Services for both facilities.

The Industrial and Systems Engineering Department (ISE) at SJSU has established a firm goal to provide a high-quality education to its students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, the appointee will actively participate in strengthening the present ties between the ISE Department and its surrounding high-tech industries and will embark on establishing new connections with high tech companies. Additionally, the appointee will participate in department and college committee assignments and in other activities that connect the ISE Department to the College of Engineering and the rest of the campus. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), Division of Safety Research (DSR), has an exciting career opportunity for a Fellowship position to conduct research associated with robotics and emerging technologies. The Division serves as the focal point for traumatic injury control research at NIOSH which is part of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The Fellow will conduct research to:

The Safety Specialist is responsible for helping Ward Insurance Agency, Inc. attract, secure, and retain business by providing professional, timely, and knowledgeable human loss prevention and safety services. The role operates as a value-add position to support the Producers’ prospecting and servicing goals. The Safety Specialist will also be responsible for developing and maintaining internal resources and systems for the continual improvement of the Department and Risk Services Team.

Although this position will be based out of one of Ward Insurance Agency’s three Oregon locations, applicants in the following locations are eligible for consideration to perform the role remotely due to Client locations: Kansas City, Missouri, Little Rock, Arkansas, and Atlanta, Georgia.

This position reports directly to Ward Insurance Agency’s President and indirectly to the Director of Risk Services relating to the Department Goals for the Risk Services Team.
