ORULS no longer available
The Oregon Regional Union List of Serials (ORULS) is not longer available and has been removed from the Database of Databases.
From the Oregon State Library web site:
The Oregon State Library no longer provides access to the Oregon Regional Union List of Serials (ORULS). The database has not been updated for several years.
Some holdings information is available via the free version of OCLC Worldcat. Full holdings information is available through the subscription version of WorldCat, which is offered through most public libraries.
Search by serial title and limit type to ‘Serial Publication’ and location by OCLC symbol. Then select ‘Libraries worldwide that own item’.

Ingenta Table of Contents Alerts notice
The Oregon State University Libraries is cancelling its subscription to Ingenta Connect as of August 1, 2009. In anticipation of this you will find suggestions for alternative research alerting services available at: http://ica.library.oregonstate.edu/subject-guide/611-Keeping-Current-with-Research?tab=2121 .
• In lieu of Ingenta for your Search Alerts, we recommend using a broad database like Web of Knowledge/Science as the closest equivalent to the broad coverage of Ingenta OR
• You may want to see if the subject specific database you use most frequently has an alerting service.
• In lieu of Ingenta’s Table of Contents alerts, we recommend you use the free JISC Table of Contents alerting service called “ticTOCs” ” (see at: http:// www.tictocs.ac.uk/), OR
• Ingenta offers a free personal Table of Contents services for up to five (5) titles. You fall in that category. If you would like to use the free version you can set this up by going to: http://www.ingentaconnect.com . Note: This is probably better done from off campus or after August 1 so you do not inadvertently end up at our current institutional subscription site.
If you need additional assistance setting up search alerts please contact your subject librarian. If you are unsure which librarian covers your department, refer to this listing: http://osulibrary.oregonstate.edu/staff/college-dept-specialists
New Electronic Resource: ticTOCs
ticTOCs provides access to the current Table of Contents (TOC) from some 12,000 journals, providing a single interface for managing access to journals’ RSS feeds – saving users from searching for individual journal feeds and tracking multiple journal webpages. Users can also easily export their journal TOC selections from ticTOCs to the RSS feed reader of their choice (including Microsoft Outlook RSS feeds folder).
Charleston Advisor now available
OSU Libraries now has access to The Charleston Advisor. Access is available from Vol. 1 (1999) to the present.
The Center for Research Libraries and the editors of The Charleston Advisor (TCA) have begun to work together to expand and enhance The Charleston Advisor as a source of trustworthy and authoritative evaluations of electronic scholarly resources and services. By working together CRL and TCA expect to make available to the collection development community more analytical information about electronic resources and in-depth analysis of the archiving provisions that stand behind those resources.
Beginning with the current (January 2008) issue librarians at all CRL member institutions will henceforth have access to TCA. IP ranges for CRL members have been forwarded to TCA, and even CRL institutions that have not previously subscribed now have online access to the TCA through CRL. TCA will phase out its subscription fees for CRL institutions. Those who have already renewed their TCA subscriptions will begin to receive TCA gratis through CRL when their current subscription period ends.
CRL is happy to make this essential collection development tool available to you and hope that it yields significant benefits for your institution.
WebPacPro on the public catalog
III completed the WebPAC Pro upgrade to our Oasis system so that now when you do a keyword search the results will be ranked by relevance.
One unexpected benefit is that finally it’s possible to just hit return instead of needing to click the Search button after you’ve entered your Keywords. This is something we’ve been requesting for quite a long time and it’s nice to see that it now works.
However, III encountered a problem that they have not observed before when upgrading other sites.
You’ll see this phrase: 25 results found. Sorted by relevance | date | title. Once you’ve gotten your results you should be able to click on either date or title to resort the list. This is not currently working. Instead you get an error message saying NO ENTRIES FOUND. III is working on this as an urgent problem, but since they have not seen this behavior before they’re unable to tell us how long it will take to fix it.
