OSU Libraries’ subscriptions to the journals of Australia’s Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation (CSIRO) and Canada’s National Research Council (NRC) are converting to electronic subscriptions. CSIRO journals are available back to Volume 1 for each title. NRC journals are available back to 1996 or 1998, depending on the title.

This year, OSU Libraries continues to implement its strategic plan, including Goal 1b, to enhance its collection of electronic journals, databases and books. We are moving a number of journals to electronic subscriptions this year–over 600 individual titles. These titles will be listed in upcoming enews posts.

These titles join our existing electronic journal collections, which includes Elsevier Science Direct, Wiley Interscience and Springerlink. Our electronic journals can be accessed through the Library Catalog, or the Libraries’ E-Journals list.

Early American Newspapers, Series I, 1690-1876. Also known as America’s Historical Newspapers. Series I offers more than 700 historical American newspapers from 23 states and the District of Columbia printed between 1690 and 1876. Focusing largely on the 18th century, Series I is based on Clarence S. Brigham’s “History and Bibliography of American Newspapers, 1690-1820” and other authoritative bibliographies.

The core of the collection is formed by American Antiquarian Society (AAS) founder Isaiah Thomas’ own collection of colonial and early national period newspapers and supplemented by issues added by Thomas’ successors at the AAS. Numerous other institutions and historical societies have contributed to the collection, including the Boston Athenaeum, the Connecticut Historical Society, the Connecticut State Library, the Library Company of Philadelphia, the Library of Congress, the libraries of universities such as Brown and Harvard and private collections.

American Periodical Series, 1740-1900: This unique and valuable collection contains digitized images of the pages of American magazines and journals that originated between 1741, when Andrew Bradford’s American Magazine and Benjamin Franklin’s General Magazine were launched, and 1900. Deriving from the acclaimed American Periodicals Series microform collection, APS Online features over 1,100 periodicals spanning nearly 200 years-from colonial times to the advent of American involvement in World War II. Titles range from America’s first scientific journal, Medical Repository, to popular magazines like Vanity Fair and Ladies’ Home Journal.
