  • Develop and implement a laboratory and hazardous waste management program that conforms to all applicable local, state, federal and agency rules and regulations;
  • Provide expert advice and safety training on industrial hygiene and safety for division employees and other interested parties;
  • Plan, conduct, and direct special studies concerned with occupational health problems;
  • 25-50% of work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.

About the opportunity: The newly formed School of Clinical and Rehabilitation Sciences within the Bouvé College of Health Sciences at Northeastern University invites applicants for an open-rank tenure/tenure track position starting August 2021. The hired candidate will be appointed in either the Department of Physical Therapy, Movement and Rehabilitation Sciences or the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Joint and affiliated appointments across colleges in line with the candidate’s research and education portfolio are possible and will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsibilities: The hired candidate will have the specific responsibility for developing a transdisciplinary research program and synergistic education activities that address the need for innovative approaches in clinical and rehabilitation sciences that integrate knowledge, methods, and practices from a wide range of disciplines, including but not limited to engineering, computer sciences, clinical sciences, artificial intelligence and design. To do so, the hired candidate will work with faculty, post-doctoral fellows, and students from different disciplines across the School, College, and University.

Job Summary

The City of Salem is looking to provide an opportunity for two Wastewater Treatment Plant Interns to gain hands on work experience in the operation of the city’s two wastewater plants, Willow Lake Water Pollution Control Facility and the River Road Peak Wet Weather Treatment Facility.

Willow Lake is the primary treatment facility for the City with a dry weather secondary treatment capacity of 65 mgd, a wet weather secondary treatment capacity of 95 mgd, and a peak wet weather capacity of 155 mgd.  It can be operated in trickling filter/activated sludge, conventional air activated sludge and in a combination of both processes plus selective treatment based on flow and load fluctuations. 

The River Road Peak Wet Weather Treatment Facility is a high rate, physical chemical ballasted flocculation facility with ultra-violet disinfection.  This facility is operated only when flows at the Willow Lake Facility are above 95 mgd.  Operation of this remote facility is permitted for use to prevent sanitary sewer overflows associated with wet weather.

The City’s treatment facilities serve a population equivalent of 229,000 within a three city area with an average annual flow of 45 mgd.  The facility staff of 53 employees provide Operations, Maintenance, Laboratory, Biosolids, and Administrative Services for both facilities.

Department Summary

The Industrial and Systems Engineering Department (ISE) at SJSU has established a firm goal to provide a high-quality education to its students at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The Department offers classroom instruction by the best-qualified faculty, hands-on experience in industry-sponsored state-of-the-art laboratories, and opportunities for industry internships. The Department has over 200 undergraduate and 340 graduate students.

Students in Industrial and Systems degree programs learn through our hands-on and practice-oriented curricula to prepare for professional careers in subject areas such as: supply chain, operations research and data analytics, engineering management, human factors, and quality engineering. Required Qualifications

The department invites applications for one tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor or Associate Professor (with tenure). An earned Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering or related Engineering discipline is required. The department is recruiting in all areas of human factors, human computer interface, and/or user experience. It is preferred that the candidates research area addresses either the domain of Social Robotics and Human-Robotic Technology Relations and/or Health Equity and Health Infrastructures but all domain areas of human factors will be considered. Preference will be given to applicants holding at least one degree in Industrial Engineering. Applicants should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience.

Responsibilities

The person selected for this faculty position will be responsible for teaching in the undergraduate and graduate programs, providing leadership for the department’s graduate programs in Human Factors, Industrial and Systems Engineering, or Engineering Management, advising students including master’s projects and theses, and developing a research program related to his/her field of interest. In addition, the appointee will actively participate in strengthening the present ties between the ISE Department and its surrounding high-tech industries and will embark on establishing new connections with high tech companies. Additionally, the appointee will participate in department and college committee assignments and in other activities that connect the ISE Department to the College of Engineering and the rest of the campus. Candidate will participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committee and other service assignments. Candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.

3+ years of experience with OSHA (Occupational Safety & Health Act), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association)

Preferred Qualifications:

Certified Safety Professional (CSP); or Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) designation.
Management Systems Experience.
