New Database: CAMIO

CAMIO (Catalog of Art Museum Images Online) is a growing online collection documenting works of art from around the world, representing the collections of prominent museums. CAMIO highlights the creative output of cultures around the world, from prehistoric to contemporary times, and covering the complete range of expressive forms.

CAMIO is licensed for use by students, faculty, and researchers at subscribing institutions. Works of art may be used for educational and research purposes during the term of the subscription, if they are properly credited. Images may not be published or otherwise distributed.

Trial: Springer E-Book Collection

OSU Libraries has set up a trial of the 2009 Springer E-book Collection. This trial will run through April 30, 2009. During the trial, Oregon State University faculty, staff and students will be able to browse and access over 25,000 E-book titles published by Springer between 2005 and the present. Visitors will have access to these books from the public computers in the library.

We have access to all books identified with a small green square next to the title information.

The Springer E-Book Collection includes books in the follow subject areas:

  • Architecture, Design and Arts
  • Behavioral Sciences
  • Biomedical & Life Sciences
  • Business & Economics
  • Chemistry & Material Science
  • Computer Science
  • Earth & Environmental Science
  • Engineering
  • Humanities, Social Sciences & Law

  • Physics & Astronomy
  • Professional and Applied Computing

SciFinder Scholar 2006 expired, effective February 2009!

SciFinder Scholar users who have not upgraded to the 2007 client software must now do so as the 2006 version has expired. Users attempting to access SciFinder Scholar using the 2006 software will encounter “expired” error messages. SciFinder Scholar 2007 installation files (and download instructions) can be accessed from the library website: http://osulibrary.oregonstate.edu/research/databases/scifind.htm

Pre-CINAHL database now merged with CINAHL

The content in the Pre-CINAHL database has been merged with the CINAHL database to streamline searches. Pre-CINAHL was intended to provide current awareness of new journal articles, and included a rotating file of limited bibliographic information (no subject searching), which was available to searchers only for the time when these articles were being assigned additional indexing. This enabled users to gain access to article citations that otherwise would not have been available. These early article citations are now part of all CINAHL products.

This update means that:

  • All of the records you wish to access in Pre-CINAHL can be searched in your subscribed CINAHL product
  • If you wish to exclude these records in your CINAHL product search, you can use the “Exclude Pre-CINAHL” search limiter

CINAHL (Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health Literature) is the authoritative resource for nursing and allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers. This database provides indexing and abstracting for over 1,700 current nursing and allied health journals and publications dating back to 1982, totaling over 880,000 records.

Database Trial: Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Source

OSU Libraries has a trial of the Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Source database. This trial will last through February 20, 2009.

Rehabilitation & Sports Medicine Source contains full-text for over 190 sports and rehabilitation journals. This is a key database for hospital rehabilitation and sports clinicians, with full-text coverage dating back to 1963 and key scholarly titles in this discipline.

Database Trial: Public Affairs Index

OSU Libraries has a trial of the Public Affairs Index database. This trial will last through February 20, 2009.

Public Affairs Index (PAI) is a bibliographic database covering all aspects of global contemporary public policy issues ranging from public health, the environment, housing, human and civil rights, to international conflict and natural disasters. It draws on a diverse array of scholarly publications, conference papers, government documents and current reference works to provide up-to-date information on the broad range of topics of concern to the world today.

RSS Feeds in Library Databases

In the past, RSS reader/aggregators such as Bloglines & NewsGator were often unable to recognize RSS feeds from our databases and electronic journals because our III proxy server changed the URL, imbedding additional text. With our switch to EZProxy, this is no longer an issue and the RSS feeds should work.

Database Trial: ABC-CLIO History Reference Online

OSU Libraries has a trial of the ABC-CLIO History Reference Online collection. This trial will run through September 20, 2008.

ABC-CLIO History Reference Online is a collection 585 electronic books on a variety of history and other humanities topics, including politics, geography, popular culture and religion.
