Kanopy is a leading distributor of online educational videos. All videos are delivered to library users through a dedicated platform that it is customized to local requirements and incorporates features such as Learning Management System embed, commentary and engagement tools, clip and playlist creation, 360° discoverability, and much more.  OSU currently has the following collections available as a trial for OSU through 5/21/2014:

 

  • First Run Features: First Run Features was founded in 1979 by a group of filmmakers to advance the distribution of independent film. Under the leadership of the late film pioneer, Fran Spielman, First Run Features quickly gained a reputation for its controversial catalog of daring documentaries and fiction films.  The collection includes films by such notable directors as Spike Lee, Michael Apted, Peter Jackson, Alex Gibney, Joe Berlinger, Allan Mille and many more.
  • Criterion: The Criterion Collection and Janus Films has been dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements. The collection includes important classic and contemporary films of masters of cinema such as Renoir, Godard, Kurosawa, Cocteau, Fellini, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Hitchcock, and more.
  • Green Planet: Green Planet Films is a non-profit distributor of nature and environmental videos from around the globe striving to promote environmental education through film. They seek to preserve and protect our planet by collecting and distributing documentaries that can be used to educate the public about the science, beauty, and fragility of the natural world.
  • Kino Lorber: Kino Lorber Edu offers over 600 titles with Kanopy. Key collections for Silent Film, Film Studies, World Cinema, and LGBT Studies will provide libraries with in-depth collections as well as the best critically acclaimed documentaries and films available today, including Metropolis and The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari.
  • DEFA: The DEFA Film Library at the University of Massachusetts Amherst is the only archive and study center outside Europe devoted to the study of a broad spectrum of filmmaking by East German filmmakers or related to East Germany from 1946 to the present. Many films have been voted among the 100 Best German Films ever made and include: The Murderers Are Among Us (1946, dir. Wolfgang Staudte), Marriage in the Shadows (1947, dir. Kurt Maetzig), The Story of Little Mook (1953. Dir. Wolfgang Staudte) and many more.
