Tillamook County Health Department is seeking a Masters-level or Bachelors-level intern to support the Tillamook County Health Department’s health coalition, Tillamook County Wellness.  This position will partner with the Environmental Health and Emergency Preparedness committee in addressing 3 priority areas of work: indoor air quality, disaster and evacuation readiness, and extreme weather events.

The committee will be working on these priority areas over the next 2 years starting in January.  January 2026 through June 2026 will primarily be focused on building resources in all three priority areas that can be utilized for public education and incorporation into public health programs.

The successful candidate will help in the searching for and development of materials such as flyers, social media, and website content in the 3 priority areas.   This person may also attend virtual community meetings and other applicable educational opportunities as it relates to this project.

The timeframe for this work is January 2026-June 2026. 

Work will be completed remotely with regular scheduled check-ins via the Teams meeting platform with the Public Health Deputy Director.

A successful candidate will be proficient in the following skills/abilities

  • Online research
  • Good writing and analytical skills
  • Canva or graphic design
  • Proficiency in Spanish is beneficial

Overview

The Center for Climate, Health and Equity seeks highly motivated interns to join an energetic and fast-paced team. The work of this Center focuses on advancing the conversation of climate change where it intersects with health equity and justice.

This is an US-based internship, and candidates must be able to work in the US during the internship.  APHA internships are unpaid and located in Washington, D.C.

Responsibilities

Interns complete research on issues, develop fact sheets, blog posts and background reports, support outreach and communication to members and partners, and contribute content to climate webpages. In addition, interns are provided opportunities to participate in relevant hearings, briefings, meetings, and webinars, as well as interact with APHA leadership and members.  Interns will also participate in Speak for Health and other association-wide events as applicable. 

All APHA interns also work on the Association’s Get Ready campaign, writing blog posts and working on group projects each semester.

Qualifications

Undergraduate and graduate students are eligible for unpaid APHA internships. The internships at APHA are extremely beneficial to those seeking to acquire practical work experience in the above-mentioned areas. Candidates should be working toward a bachelors, graduate, or postgraduate degree, and all majors are welcome. Candidates should also have:
– Excellent written and oral communication skills.
– Research and analysis experience.
– Strong interest in climate change, health equity or environmental justice issues.
