We are looking for high performing and motivated individuals in various areas within DTNA organizations. DTNA internships begin each summer in May or June.

Interns in this role may have the opportunity to transition into a full-time position subject to manager evaluations and business availability.

The primary objective for this internship is to assist the Product Validation Engineering (PVE) Safety team in ensuring a safer and healthier work environment for all employees.

The intern will gain hands-on experience in various aspects of occupational safety and health while contributing to our efforts to maintain compliance with relevant regulations and standards. Additionally, the intern will provide extra assistance to fine-tune our current processes and dive deep into inspections, ensuring the continuous improvement of our safety protocols.

What You Drive at DTNA

Work under the guidance and supervision of PVE Safety and will be responsible for the following tasks:

  • Conduct safety inspections, audits, and Gemba walks to identify potential hazards and safety violations
  • Assist in the development and implementation of safety policies, standard operating procedures, assessments, and training programs
  • Analyze and assist in incident investigations
  • Maintain and update the safety data sheets (SDS) inventory and any applicable secondary container labels
  • Assist with safety awareness campaigns and initiatives
  • Manage documentation of training, Toolbox Talks, and other related processes

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Must be currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s/PhD Program from an accredited college/university or have graduated within the last 12 months. 
  • Enrollment in or recent graduation from an accredited OSH program or related field.
  • GSP/ASP preferred.
  • Knowledge of regulations and standards (OR OSHA, ANSI, NFPA, etc.).
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Solid organizational skills.
  • Creative mindset.
  • Interpersonal skills and ability to work in a team environment.

Overview

Position Summary

Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Intern will be responsible for providing technical support focusing on day-to-day activities that are compliance, safety, or environmental related. The intern will assist the EHS department with projects from scope definition through implementation.

Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions                                                                

  • Assist in identifying, planning, and leading EHS projects and actions to minimize the risk of incidents.
  • Conduct incident investigations using root cause analysis and corrective/preventive action.
  • Perform risk assessments to evaluate hazardous conditions using hierarchy of controls to develop solutions.
  • Perform weekly inspections of key programs to ensure compliance with EHS policies and procedures.
  • Partner with the Safety Manager on the training and development of facility emergency response team.
  • Assist in the research, design and implementation of EHS programs, plans and procedures guiding regulatory compliance, prevention of undesired consequences and risk reduction strategies.
  • Support data analytics reporting and documentation management.
  • Develop working knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental, health and safety regulations as well as consensus standards.
  • Research and present on industry trends and best practices for EHS disciplines.
  • Understand and manage risks associated with your role and those that impact organizational objectives.
  • Participate in required company meetings.
  • Maintain an organized work area (5S).
  • Participate in the Operational Excellence Program.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment.
  • Complete all other work duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements, Education & Experience (incl. KSA’s and certifications):

  • Currently enrolled in BS of Environment Health, Occupational Health & Safety or similar degree program or an Engineering degree.
  • Basic knowledge of environmental, health and safety disciplines.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to conduct EHS training to a variety of users in different settings and formats.
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and team building skills to create effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain confidential information and comply with policies and procedures.
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Physical & Environmental Demands

Cretex Companies use cutting oils, solvents, and other chemicals in the manufacturing process.  Testing is conducted on a periodic basis to ensure that all chemicals are kept well below the OSHA permissible exposure levels.

Job Description

The Environmental, Health, and Safety Manager (EHS Manager) manages the EHS program for the facility; inspects work areas to detect unsafe or unhealthy working conditions; plans and directs safety and health activities to evaluate and control environmental hazards by performing the following duties below.

This role involves work at our manufacturing facilities in Clackamas, OR and Vancouver, WA. It is in person and will require an on-site presence at both. General working hours are Monday to Friday 7AM to 3:30PM with overtime as needed to complete tasks or respond to safety issues.

Health & Safety:

  • Coordinates and manages the planning, development, implementation, and administration of occupational health, safety program, policy and procedures in Clackamas, OR and Vancouver, WA manufacturing facilities.
  • Represents the Company to regulatory officials in compliance with federal, state, and local health safety rules and regulations, and Company policies/procedures.
  • Coordinates the investigation of safety related issues and employee injuries and assists with the development and implementation of effective corrective action.
  • Supervises and conducts comprehensive inspections, studies, and on-site surveys for evaluation and correction of health, safety, or environmental hazards.
  • Develops, coordinates, and conducts occupational health and safety education, training programs and safety committee meetings.

Environmental: ISO 14001

  • Coordinates sustainability and continuous improvement of ISO14001 standard ensuring that the system is kept up-to-date.
  • Coordinates and manages environmental compliance programs and projects.
  • Acts as the primary local contact with regulatory agencies and other interested parties.
  • Coordinates environmental training programs and associated records.
  • Maintains environmental records.
  • Advises management and employees of the progress, internal issues and changes that could affect quality and environmental policies and systems as required.
  • Monitors progress of environmental improvement and pollution prevention programs, evaluates operational effectiveness and ensures compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Develops and presents environmental compliance training or orientation sessions.
  • Assists in development of spill prevention programs and hazardous waste rules and regulations, and recommends corrective action in event of hazardous spill; serves as the plant emergency coordinator.
  • Prepares and maintains records to document activities, recommend action, provide reference materials, and prepare technical reports.
  • Serves as a management representative for ISO 14001.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in occupational health, safety, environmental, engineering, chemical sciences or a related field from an accredited college or university or equivalent skills obtained from work experience.
  • ISO 14001 Lead Auditor Certification
  • HazMat DOT, RCRA, OSHA 40 HR Certification

Wages

  • Starting range is $75,000-$95,000 based on skills and experience.
  • The entire salary range for this role is $75,000 to $130,000.
