About the TCCA Summer Intern Program: 

Tillamook County Creamery Association (TCCA)’s Summer Internship Program is a 10 to 12-week program for graduate and undergraduate students to join the Tillamook team to connect to our 115-year-old heritage. Our interns play a significant role in solving real-world business challenges and enjoy bites of our ice cream, cheese and beloved dairy products every step of the way. As a farmer-owned cooperative, we invite interns to visit the farms of our farmer-owners so they can see what cow care, environmental stewardship and the daily operations of a dairy farm look like, up close.  In addition to the farm tour, we host multiple enriching experiences throughout the duration of the program, that include being an honorary Tillamook taste bud for the day with our immersive cheese and ice cream tastings, “college-inspired” cooking class with our executive chef, resume & interview workshop, sales market tours and so much more! 

This role is based out of Tillamook, Oregon

What you will do:

Our Plant Safety intern will continue the work of our previous safety intern with our Lock Out, Tag Out (LOTO) placards as well as some Job Hazard Analysis (JHA) focused projects for the entire plant.

Here’s a day in the life:

  • Participation in incident investigations and root cause analysis.
  • Learn about hazard identification and behavior-based safety systems.
  • Assist with Management of change projects in the facility.
  • Contributing to a successful safety committee.
  • Attend required meetings to help drive a strong safety culture. 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s or masters program and not due to graduate the semester prior to the internship
  • Currently studying Safety, Public Health or any manufacturing related field

BACKGROUND AND CONTEXT

The multidimensional nature of climate change creates far-reaching consequences not only for the environment but also for development and, ultimately, for the security of people, communities and states. While climate change does not cause violent conflict in and of itself, it can multiply risks that contribute to insecurity, overburden state capacity, and make already vulnerable communities more susceptible to threats.

In the past 15-20 years, these interlinkages between climate change, prevention and sustaining peace have received a growing amount of attention both among researchers and increasingly also in policy circles. In the Security Council, for instance, a landmark Presidential Statement from 2011 (PRST/2011/15) paved the way for more regular engagement on this topic and set the stage for a series of formal outcomes over the past two years recognizing the adverse impact of climate change on stability and calling for “adequate risk assessments and risk management strategies by governments and the United Nations.”

While the debates on the climate-conflict nexus have extended beyond causality and contextual pathways, how climate action may contribute to peace, stability, and security in conflict-affected and fragile contexts needs to be better understood and documented. Communities suffer a “double exposure” and “double vulnerability” to climate change and conflict, viz extant socio-, economic- and political factors which make them vulnerable to conflict and also leave them susceptible to climate change.

Addressing climate-related security risks represents a strategic focus on delivering innovative and cross-cutting approaches to promote climate action and sustaining peace for UNDP, the largest implementer of climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the largest conflict prevention and peacebuilding portfolio in the UN system. UNDP’s Climate Security Offer leverages the expertise of UNDP’s Global Policy Network on climate, environment, peace and security, and also builds on the Climate Security Mechanism’s work to: 

  1. Climate-proof prevention and peacebuilding, 
  2. Ensure peace-positive mitigation and adaptation, 
  3. Deliver integrated approaches to climate action and sustaining peace, and 
  4. Strengthen the capacity of regional entities and cross-border approaches to address climate-related security risks.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Team Leader – Climate Security Risk, the intern shall perform, inter alia, the following tasks:

Tasks assigned may include one or more of the following:

  • Assisting with policy and advocacy work, including collecting data from projects, drafting, formatting, and proofing communications materials, success stories and event invitations
  • Support the collection of information related to policy and programme support, analyse the information and develop a short compendium of good programming and policy practices in climate, peace and security
  • Assist in other basic research i.e., collecting, analyzing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources
  • Support data analytics visualizations and prepare infographics/factsheets
  • Drafting posts to promote events, publications, and content featured on UNDP’s social media accounts
  • Assist in administrative and substantive support to meetings and events, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics etc.
  • Support other/ad hoc activities as seen relevant and needed.

Requirements: 

  • Experience in conflict prevention/peacebuilding, climate change, climate security and/or related areas;
  • Demonstrable understanding of issues related to international development, climate change, security, peacebuilding and/or resilience;
  • Experience of working in a field office is desirable;
  • Demonstrable excellent written and communication skills;
  • Ability to take initiative, work independently, work under pressure and meet tight deadlines; and
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as a part of a team, sharing information and coordinating efforts within the team.

Education:

  • Have graduated with a university degree (as defined in (a) and (b) above) and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year of graduation. 

Language Requirements:

  • Proficient in written and spoken English. Knowledge of another UN language would be an asset.

UNDP Terms & Conditions of internship

Internships within the UN system are subject to following conditions, which the candidates should familiarize themselves with prior to applying:

  • UNDP interns are eligible to receive a monthly stipend, with the rate that varies depending on the duty location. The stipend will be paid monthly, and part-time internship arrangements are prorated accordingly.

  • Interns are not staff members and may not represent UNDP in any official capacity.
  • UNDP only accepts interns for a minimum of 6 weeks and a maximum of 6 months.

  • Official letter from the University confirming enrollment in a degree program, specifying the subject and level of the program and expected graduation date, or Diploma if the intern has graduated within the last year;
  • Copy of passport;
  • Copy of current school Transcript if enrolled in school, or transcript from most recently completed year.
  • Proof of health insurance coverage valid for the duration of the internship.
  • Medical Certificate of good health from a recognized physician. What you will do!

You will process permits for well-defined industrial, commercial, and municipal air quality sources where the permit templates need minimal technical input. You will provide assistance to such facilities and perform on-site inspections. When deviations are noted, you will assist in determining compliance with air quality statutes and regulations of those sources. You will investigate complaints and recommend specific actions to resolve those complaints. In addition, you will recommend enforcement to the Northwest Region Air Quality program manager when violations of statutes, permits, or rules are observed and documented.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):

As a Community Disaster Program Specialist, you will guide, lead and support teams of trained volunteers to deliver comfort and care in times of disaster. You will also create and maintain a foundation of continuous and robust volunteer engagement using established processes and collaborating with volunteer services staff. You will work with volunteers to ensure that the communities you serve are ready to respond to disasters.

Join us in meeting the needs of continuous disaster response! Regional disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at a minimum of once a year. Deployments contribute to skill building, career development and exposure to different types of disasters. Allowances may be provided for personal circumstances and local response activity. Employees must meet all training and physical capacity requirements for deployment.

This role is not eligible for relocation assistance. This role supports 9 counties across the Cascades region. The primary home office for this role is Portland, OR; however, we are also open to candidates based out of our Salem chapter office. 3 days a week on office are required.

WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE FOR GOOD (Key Responsibilities):

  • Empower Volunteers: Facilitate and support a diverse volunteer team responsible for the implementation of volunteer-led disaster cycle services programming as well as ensure disaster cycle services are delivered in a rapid, accessible, and equitable manner, both culturally and linguistically, to meet the urgent, disaster-caused needs of our clients, with a focus on frontline communities.
  • Support the Program: Assist with the successful implementation of either specific disaster cycle services program activities, or a specific disaster cycle services function within an assigned geographic area.
  • Mission Capacity Building: Engage disaster volunteers who are the primary workforce, and representative of the communities they serve, both culturally and linguistically.
  • Engage Community: Support local efforts to prepare and mobilize communities and engage partners to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies.
  • Manage in a Matrix: Implement plans to meet assigned targets for volunteer engagement and volunteer-led Disaster Action Team response to local home fires or support specific function tasks within assigned geographic area.
  • Know Your Communities: Act as the local point of contact for partners and communities. Partner with local organizations and leaders supporting frontline communities and community resiliency before, during and after disasters.
  • Ready to Respond: Participate in disaster response operations in the region in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations, upon completion of training requirements.

WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of related experience.
  • A current valid driver’s license and good driving record is required.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Ability to coordinate staff and volunteer activities.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proven record of accomplishment of collaboration with diverse groups and individual’s representative of all the demographics of this community, managing multiple priorities, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management.
  • Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work outside of regular duty hours including nights and weekends.

RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS

  • Chapter-based positions: Geographic Community Disaster employees are expected to work daily in their assigned geographic area to engage and mobilize communities and support volunteers.
  • Regional positions: Regional leadership and functional employees are expected to work daily within their region’s geographic area to provide leadership and functional support, engage and mobilize communities, and support volunteers.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to handle or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand; walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The work environment will consist of moderate noise (i.e. business offices with computers, phones and printers, light traffic). The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and have the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.

NRDC is seeking a Summer 2026 Henry Henderson Fellow to work with the Environment, Equity & Justice Center (EEJC) team associated with our Washington, D.C., New York, Santa Monica, or Chicago office(s).

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Staff Community Scientist, the Henry Henderson Fellow will work in close collaboration with Staff Community Scientists, the Director of Community Science, and others in the Environment, Equity & Justice Center (EEJC) to advance NRDC’s understanding and practice of community science methodologies to support and advance EJ campaign priorities. The Fellow preferably will be based out of NRDC’s Washington, D.C., office. NRDC’s Chicago, Santa Monica, and New York offices will also be considered, as with locations based on project priorities.

  • Advancing methods and best practices for community-driven science or participatory research projects including data sovereignty issues.
  • Community driven qualitative and quantitative monitoring tools.
  • The use of existing scientific data to support environmental and climate justice initiatives.

Qualifications

Required

Education & Experience

  • Graduate student enrolled in an accredited university/college program
  • Background in an environmental, social justice, or scientific field (e.g. environmental science, engineering, public health, environmental policy, etc.)

Skills, Abilities, Competencies

  • Interest in broadening their engagement in community-directed science
  • Passion for applying methodologies to issues of social justice, environmental health disparities, climate change, and related challenges
