Q: What’s a fun way to earn continuing education hours while flexing your horticulture expertise?
A: Our annual Oregon Master Gardener Trivia Series, of course!
We’re turning up the heat once again inviting OSU Extension Master Gardener volunteers to join us for a little friendly competition with each other. One Monday a month, October through February, at 7 p.m., hop on our Zoom to test your gardening knowledge and vie for cool prizes—not to mention bragging rights for your county!
We’ll have 50 questions related to a different theme each month, and topics range from the super scientific and technical to the practical and historical, so there’s something for everyone. (Plus, it’s multiple choice, so even if you slacked on studying, you still have a 25% chance of getting it right!)
10/12/26—Interesting Insects: Drawing largely from the books Bugs in the System (Berenbaum) and Insect Potpourri: Adventures inEntomology (Adams), this session explores the lives and behaviors of insects, and how those insects interact with humans and other creatures.
11/9/26—All About Herbs: With emphasis on the ways herbs are used in the garden and home, this session will refresh your knowledge on these widely planted garden inhabitants.
12/7/26—Weeds of the West: Use University of Wyoming’s plant clinic must-have book (https://www.wyoextension.org/agpubs/pubs/wsws-1.pdf) to practice identifying the plants westerners love to hate- you’ll be better prepared to ID plants for our clients, and you might just win a prize!
1/11/26—Butterflies and Moths: Bees aren’t the only pollinators out there! Questions will cover butterflies and moths of western North America, the plants they pollinate, and how we can provide for them in our gardens.
2/8/26— Botanical terminology: There are infinite types of plant parts, leaf shapes, type of hair, and inflorescence shapes- and each of them has a name! Use this session to brush up on the terminology that helps us describe and identify plants and their characteristics.
How to participate
- Join via zoom on the date of the event.
- Connect to the trivia app (Slido) on your phone or computer.
- At the start of the tournament evening, you’ll be directed to the Slido app to begin competing.
- Multiple choice trivia, 50 questions per session.
- Winners will be announced live during the Zoom event.
- Each session counts as one Continuing Education Unit for Master Gardener volunteers.
Did we say prizes? Yes we did. There will be prizes.
