Position Overview 

The U.S. Climate Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of governors securing America’s net-zero future by advancing state-led, high-impact climate action. The Alliance Secretariat helps its members accelerate climate action by providing a broad range of technical, analytical, policy, and capacity assistance and resources. The coalition has also built strong relationships with the federal administration to help create and implement an ambitious, durable national climate framework. The U.S. Climate Alliance Secretariat is seeking an intern ready to contribute to its research, policy development, peer-to-peer learning, and coordination work. The intern will respond to specific project-level needs such as tracking policy progress and implementation, drafting policy briefing papers, and providing general coordination and program support. This role is an opportunity to gain a comprehensive and in-depth understanding of the types of policies and actions U.S. states are advancing to drive down GHG emissions across the economy. The intern will be expected to work as part of a broader team that includes Alliance staff, consultants, external partners, and member states. 

This is a paid opportunity from May 27th, 2025, to August 29th, 2025, and offers an hourly compensation rate of $17.50 – $20 per hour.

Essential Functions 

  • Working with team members to prepare materials that support major Alliance meetings and workshops, provide additional capacity for database updates, notetaking, and research for policy workgroup meetings.
  • Support rapid response on IRA/IIJA implementation, including tracking announcements from the federal government and state governments, and updating trackers, newsletters, and documents accordingly
  • Support sector leads on the annual report and identify state policy examples
  • Design and conduct landscape analysis/framework outlining the key career pathways, occupations, and re-skilling opportunities needed to reach state resilience and NWL sector and workforce goals, as well as uplift model state examples.
  • Additional support tasks as needed. 

Selection Criteria

Friends of the Children Summer Research Internship

The Duncan & Cindy Campbell Foundation endow the Campbell Risk and Resilience Seminar Series in the Hallie E. Ford Center for Healthy Children and Families, within the College of Health at OSU.  The endowment also supports a paid summer internship at Friends of the Children for a COH graduate student. Summer 2025 internship responsibilities may include:

  • Lead in conducting a survey of program staff at chapters with alumni to understand: (1) How they currently engage alumni; the challenges, opportunities and (2) How they collect information on alumni – what works, what doesn’t, and strategies they believe would be successful to engage a higher % of alumni annually.
  • Lead in conducting online focus groups with chapters who have alumni to de-brief survey findings, develop a greater understanding of the context locally, and gather information that will be useful in planning a strategy to strengthen alumni data tracking in new STATS system and overall alumni engagement across the network.  These focus groups could be with staff and/or alumni. 
  • Interview National staff and youth/young adults involved with our Alumni Speakers’ Bureau and Youth Advisory Council to gain further insight about successful alumni engagement, including how to leverage the benefit of alumni voice to strengthen marketing, program, and evaluation outcomes; and how soon-to-be Alumni want to be engaged with once graduating the program.   
  • Develop and present a report of findings with recommendations for alumni STATS data tracking development and ongoing chapter engagement.  

The ideal intern will:

  • Have knowledge of and a scholarly interest in child and youth development.
  • Have a proven capacity for self-motivated, detail-oriented, independent work.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Work remotely.
  • Preference will be given to a PhD student.
  • Students must be OSU students.

Details:  The internship is half-time (20 hours/week) between July 1st and September 1st, paid at a competitive hourly rate dependent on graduate status. Schedule is flexible and work will be primarily remote unless the intern prefers otherwise. Summary

King County’s Finance and Business Operations Division, Procurement & Payables section, is seeking a Sustainable Purchasing Graduate Intern to join our Education, Compliance and Training team!

This position is expected to begin in May or June and will continue through the 2025/2026 academic year. Interns must be enrolled in a Graduate (Master’s) program for the full duration of the internship and may be asked to provide proof of enrollment at any time. Position Information:

  • Work Site Details: The work associated with this position will primarily be hybrid. FBOD employees are currently required to work two assigned days a week in the Seattle office. In office requirements may change as required by King County business needs.
  • Location Requirement: Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.
  • Work Schedule: During the academic term, the work week will consist of 10-20 hours. During summer and other school breaks, the work week will consist of 40 hours. This position is Non-Exempt from the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and therefore is overtime eligible. Employees are paid on a bi-weekly schedule, every other Thursday.

Employees will be provided with a County issued laptop.   • Lead and conduct the most complex economic analyses utilizing advanced and innovative methodologies, techniques, and tools to ensure appropriate and effective regulatory implementation
  • Lead a diverse team to evaluate and apply economic models including, but not limited to Wassily Leontief’s input-output model and IS-LM model in order to evaluate economic and fiscal impacts

  • Lead teams to plan, design, and implement major complex market research studies and projects; Teams will collect and evaluate product markets, supply chains, economic and sales data from reports, databases, surveys, and other sources of information to ensure the identification and selection of priority products under the SCP regulations as well as to ensure identification of responsible entities during compliance and enforcement activities
  • Identify and secure access to relevant data sources in order to characterize product markets and supply chains
  • Directs a diverse team in complex demographic research in order to determine the scope and parameters of research criteria and performs statistical studies involving the assessment of demographic patterns and trends related to chemicals of concern

Desirable Qualifications We Look For:

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team of scientists, engineers, and analysts
  • Experience and knowledge related to conducting economic and fiscal impact statements pursuant to Government Code Section 11346.5 and Department of Finance requirements, including Standardized Regulatory Impact Assessments for major regulations
  • Knowledge of principles, practices, and tools related to market analysis and research, including economics, demographic studies, data collection and management, product markets and supply chains

Duties

As a Environmental Health Scientist, you will:

  • Serve as an environmental health scientist (within a multidisciplinary team) specifically responsible for evaluating, providing information, or developing hypotheses regarding the pathways of chemical exposure to humans.

This position is located in the Northwest Oregon District, Marys Peak Field Office. The advanced trainee independently assures the proper format, guidelines and procedures that are used in the preparation of all land use planning and National Environmental Policy Act
(NEPA) documents. The specialist is assigned to work with more senior planning specialists and assists on interdisciplinary teams that are formed for specific planning and NEPA document components. The trainee independently reviews planning and NEPA documents to see that they read smoothly and correctly and that the various portions are coordinated within the interdisciplinary team (IDT). The advanced trainee will assist Project Leads in determining level of detail, scope of analysis, and will also check the quality of the document being produced. The trainee will provide assistance to the team lead or supervisor in the development of public information regarding completed, in progress, and future planning document availability.

Job Description:

The Oregon Health Authority (OHA), Public Health Division (PHD) is recruiting for a Healthy Waters Natural Resource Specialist to support the State of Oregon’s Healthy Waters unit as the program’s lead technical resource on water-related health hazards. The primary purpose of this position is to evaluate and report on human health risks from exposure to environmental contaminants including, but not limited to, those found in domestic well water, recreational waters (fresh and marine), as well as recycled/reused water and fish tissue. This position’s work supports OHA’s domestic well safety program, beach water quality advisories, fish consumption advisories, harmful algal bloom advisories, water plan reuse review, and other state programs related to waterborne health risks.

The work includes developing and maintaining surveillance systems to detect hazards to human health, using data to make determinations about public health interventions and other courses of action, preparing and presenting risk communication messages and public health advisories to potentially affected individuals and communities, representing OHA for media requests, and making recommendations to inter-agency advisory committees.

The Healthy Waters NRS4 also provides technical assistance and methodological expertise in collaboration with partner organizations regarding data collection on environmental hazards, environmental exposures to microbial pathogens or toxins, and health effects.

What you will do!

• Develop program strategy, review, and inform project work completed by other program staff for Oregon Beach Monitoring, Fish Consumption, Harmful Algae Blooms, and Domestic Well Safety Program.

• Prepare or review draft interagency MOUs and agreements.

• Advise management and other staff on scope and compliance for contracts supporting domestic well laboratory testing and treatment system installation.

• Provide and interpret water quality and environmental data reports for groundwater management, cyanobacteria and toxins, and fish contaminant levels.

• Provide support to toxicologist on fish consumption calculations and develop technical memos as necessary when fish consumption advisories are issued.

• Coordinate technical aspects of program protocols and public health advisories including, but not limited to, fish consumption advisories and harmful algae bloom (HAB) advisories.

• Research literature for new data and information on HABs and emerging potential human and animal health risks from exposure.

• Participate in EPH section and center-wide activities to mutually further the mission and goals of the program, section and office; receive general calls from the public on a rotational basis (Tox Call); and performs other activities as assigned.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience in water-related health hazards (specifically domestic wells, health-related hazards attributed to recreational use, HABs, and fish consumption, or any combination of the above). At least one year of the experience must be at a technical or professional level performing activities in a natural resource program such as researching and analyzing data, conducting investigations, applying pertinent laws and regulations, or coordinating and monitoring project activities;

AND
A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Public Health, or similar degrees, or three additional years of related (pertinent) experience.
OR

A Master’s degree in Public Health with an environmental focus will substitute for up to one year of the required experience.
OR

A Doctorate degree in Environmental Public Health will substitute for up to two years of the required experience.

Desired Attributes

  • Experience in advancing health equity, addressing systemic health inequities and collaborating with diverse communities most harmed by social injustice and health inequities.

Research Project: The research participant will collaborate on projects within the Pacific Ecological Systems Division (PESD) that examine the relationships between watershed, climate and human drivers of nutrients and harmful algal blooms in freshwater ecosystems. Human activities can release nutrients to landscapes, watersheds and waterways in excess of the capacity to use and retain these nutrients, altering leaching, groundwater quality, drinking water sources and aquatic ecosystem composition and productivity, including harmful algal blooms. In particular, harmful algal blooms caused by cyanobacteria have the potential to produce toxins that are dangerous to people, pets, and wildlife through drinking water and recreational uses. As a result, there is increasing need to understand the drivers and predict where harmful algal blooms may occur.

Qualifications:

The qualified candidate should have received a master’s degree in one of the relevant fields, or be currently pursuing the degree with completion before the appointment start date. Degree must have been received within five years of the appointment start date.
