The mission of this City of Eugene Public Works internship opportunity is to partner with a student pursuing academic excellence to provide a practical, hands on experience while providing the City of Eugene with additional resources to complete a safety program assessment.
In 2011, the Maintenance Division and Parks & Open Space Division completed an assessment using the Oregon OSHA Safety Health Achievement Recognition Program (SHARP) 58 elements. All 215 staff members were involved in this assessment in some way, such as surveys, interviews, work team discussions as well as specific assessments processes designed for supervisors and managers. While we have made some progress on our action plan, we were not able to finish all of the action items. After 6 years, we are ready to complete another assessment of our safety program and are looking for a paid intern to lead the project.
We are looking for a student pursuing a degree in Occupational Safety or a related field. While a graduate student is preferred, any student who can meet the job requirements is welcome to apply. The project will involve developing a proposal for the assessment process as well as leading it through the organization and completing an assessment report and action plan. A safety leadership team is in place to support this effort.
Project is targeted to begin by spring term 2018 and with completion by the end of summer. However, we have some flexibility with the timeline.
