Professional Development

Traditional graduate degree programs play a critical role in helping to develop new skill sets and expertise in a particular field. Professional development programs support students in expanding their professional skill sets and expose them to a multitude of other aspects of a chosen field.

Think of professional development as more of continuous training and education in one’s chosen career. Professional development programs offer resources and opportunities to improve professional knowledge, competence, skill, and effectiveness.

The Career Development Center (CDC) is an on-campus resource available for free to all Oregon State students. Check out the hyperlink for more information on opportunities to explore. They offer one-on-one appointments with advisors as well as career events and networking opportunities

There is a satellite location of the Career Development Center in Wilkinson 104. Please contact Britt Hoskins (britt.hoskins@oregonstate.edu | 541-737-4012) with any questions.

Tara Brabazon, Dean of Graduate Research and Professor of Cultural Studies at Flinders University has published two knowledge videos on the importance of professional development for graduate students.
