Eric Anundson has accepted a position at the University Oklahoma Health Sciences Center – Stephenson Cancer Center. Eric has been with the Research Office since September 2002, first starting work with the Incentives Program, and then moving to the Office of Sponsored Programs, and now OSRAA. His last day here is July 29, and he can now get a whole new color scheme as a “Boomer Sooner”. We’ll miss you, Eric…thanks for your service to OSU!
SIXTH COHORT BEGINS WORK WITH OSU ADVANTAGE ACCELERATOR
The sixth and newest cohort is beginning Accelerate, a program that helps fledgling or startup companies accelerate their products or services into the marketplace. The cohort includes companies from across Oregon – in Corvallis, Albany, Newport, Eugene, Aurora and Portland – that will work with the Oregon State University Advantage Accelerator/RAIN Corvallis. ROBERTA MARINELLI NAMED DEAN OF CEOAS
Dr. Marinelli is currently the Executive Director of the Wrigley Institute for Environmental Studies at the University of Southern California. She is also the Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Consortium for Ocean Leadership, the President of the Board of Directors of the Southern California Marine Institute, a member of the Executive Committee of the Western Association for Marine Laboratories, and serves on the Governing Board of the Southern California Coastal Ocean Observing System. TRAFFIC ALERT- BRIDGE CLOSURE
From the City of Corvallis: The Oregon Department of Transportation will be conducting overnight road work to resurface the Van Buren Bridge, starting at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 12 and ending at about 7 a.m. Monday, June 13. Eastbound traffic will be detoured to the Harrison Bridge.
The work is being scheduled at night due to high traffic volume, particularly truck traffic, during the day. Work will include surface grinding and asphalt repavement. For more information, contact Douglas Rogerson, ODOT Bridge Coordinator, at 541-967-2056.
TRY-ATHALON!

We get asked a lot where this office is by lost students…so here’s the new correct answer: The Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships (OFAS) will temporarily move to University Plaza Suite 100 on June 7. To assist with the move, the office will be closed beginning June 6 at 3 p.m. and should reopen by 10 a.m. on June 8 at the University Plaza. OFAS plans to return to 218 Kerr in early July. For emergency financial aid or scholarship situations during closure students or staff can contact OFAS at financial.aid@oregonstate.edu.

OSRAA UPDATES
B306 REMODEL: The moving company will remove furnishings from B306 on 6/13, and the carpeting will be replaced 6/14 through 6/16. Whatever will be moving back into B306 will be delivered back on 6/17. Hopefully cubicle installs will happen at this time as well. Julie has reserved the conference room in Snell Hall so that B306’ers can use that as workspace during the week of 6/13.
RETIREMENT PARTY NEWS!!: Lin Reilly’s retirement reception will be held on June 15, from 2:30 – 3:30 in MU 213. All RO staff please try to swing by and toast Lin!
HIRING: OSRAA will be hiring a Grant and Contract Officer instead of another Senior Grant and Contract Officer. Zach will lead the Search Committee, so he will be putting a Search Committee very soon.
OFFICE 365 ROLLOUT
CN is rollout out Office365 starting 5/19 PM. The first phase will include machines with Office 2010. A few weeks later, the other machines will be upgraded, including Macs. Be sure to leave your machines on at night to receive the automatic update Things to know:
1) New interface: Some features and options will be in different locations. https://support.office.com/en-us/article/What-s-new-and-improved-in-Office-2016-for-Office-365-95c8d81d-08ba-42c1-914f-bca4603e1426
2) Cloud service for sharing and syncing documents. Also- this is an online version that can be used by multiple devices, such as your phone or tablet. Similar to Google drive, you can upload, sync and share Office documents: http://main.oregonstate.edu/office-365 . If you would like a demo of these features for project management, backup or other uses, please let Stephen know.
3) Trust Center settings: the new version is locked down a little more. If you have problems running or accessing files, you can manually adjust your settings: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Add-remove-or-change-a-trusted-location-7ee1cdc2-483e-4cbb-bcb3-4e7c67147fb4 . Note: we’ve found you must restart the application (Excel, Access, Word) after you’ve made changes for the updates to take effect.”

The Faculty Staff Fitness Try-Athalon will be Friday, June 3rd from 11:30am-1pm. The swim portion of the event will take place at the Langton Pool and the run and walk portion will take place on Student Legacy Park (across from Dixon Recreation Center). The event itself will be a 20 minute relay. This is a great opportunity to get outside at lunch with your coworkers and have some fun. We still need 3 walkers. The cost is $10 to support the program. OFFICE 2016 (WINDOWS) UPGRADES BEGIN MAY 9
Our beta testers in the Research Office have experienced 3 issues related to this upgrade:
1) Installation process: sometimes this deletes or removes previous instances of Office. Sometimes it does not. Both of these cases can cause issues. The icons for the previous versions do not disappear after the Office 2016 install. Users click on the icons for the previous versions of Office and it says it wants to reinstall the suite. Additionally, the extension types of Office documents sometimes reverts to Office 2013 or 2016 versions, even when updating the settings within the Windows interface or updating the registry.
2) Custom application upgrade issues: we have some custom Excel and Access applications. When testing with 2016 Access, the event procedures for some of the form calls are not raised (that work perfectly with Office 2010 or 2013), so this requires workarounds to the application. We are not sure how extensive this problem is. I’ve researched this on the MS site, but there is no specific article I’ve found that addresses this issue from 2013 to 2016.
3) Performance issues related to cloud syncing with the new version. There are settings to toggle the cloud features that you can adjust if you are experiencing issues.

CH CH CH CH CHANGES IN THE RESEARCH OFFICE
Several announcements regarding comings and goings in the RO. First, just an early heads up that we will be posting a position for an “Executive Assistant- Operations” in the Research Office. Hopefully it will post next week. This position will replace the role currently held by Debbie, who is retiring on June 30 and will support AVPs in OSRAA and ORI (this ORI position is currently being recruited) as well as the new Associate VP for Research, the role Rich will be departing on June 30. An internal posting for that position is out today. Keep your eyes peeled the job links in OSU Today!
Additionly, after 20 years of service in the field of research administration (almost 10 years have been at OSU), Lin Reilly will be retiring June 30, 2016. Lin also spent 20 years in the private sector prior to moving into the field of research administration. According to Lin, “I’m honored and grateful to have worked with a great bunch of people here in the Research Office and the campus, and to have been an integral part of the merger of Sponsored Programs and the Post Award office, transforming into the Office for Sponsored Research & Award Administration. I trust that the office will continue to offer excellent customer service to the campus as its processes evolve. Stay tuned for more details on an event to honor Lin’s service.
Lastly, we welcome Vern Wrobleski to the ORI team as the ERA Project Manager. Vern joins us from Hewlett-Packard where he worked for the last 17 years as a manager on various projects in Roseville, Houston and Corvallis. He is located in A312 in the office next to Stephen…drop by and say hi!

Jessica Thurner-Byers is coming to us from Head Start of Lane County where she served as Financial Analyst Specialist in support of a program supported with federal, state, and grant funds. She performed budget analysis for wages and other charges for grant funds, provided monthly financial variance reports, and analysis reporting to two governing boards. She also served as the Executive Director of Administration and Finance for the Associate Students of Southern Oregon University serving as a liaison between students and administration.
Jeffrey Zoellner will be joining us from the private sector where he performed bookkeeping and prepared taxes for individuals, small businesses, and non-profits. His experience includes reviewing bank records, capital assets, revenues, and he performed expenditure testing for audits. He has a strong customer service focus and some grant experience.
In addition, Dawn Wagner will be returning to OSRAA in a temporary appointment as Fiscal Coordinator II. She will be helping us to resolve our closeout backlog and assisting with other projects. Dawn has extensive sponsored projects administration experience with over 15 years in various roles at OSU, UO, Northwestern University, and University of Kansas Center for Research. Dawn will start on Monday, April 18 and will be primarily working remotely. Please join us in welcoming Jessica, Jeff, and Dawn to the Research Office!
