A MESSAGE FROM CINDY: NEW FACULTY ORIENTATION FOLLOW-UP

Bravo, RO!  Yesterday’s new faculty orientation (NFO) was simply great. We delivered with energy and polish the message of who we are and what we do. Thank you for your time, for preparing so carefully, and for your commitment to excellence in serving the research community. We are now only 12 months from the 2017 NFO. If you would, send your suggestions for improving the session to Jane.cigarran@oregonstate.edu. Thanks again!

HAILS! OSRAA UPDATE

FROM SANDY COBB: I am very pleased to announce that we have hired two new Accountant 2s for the Cash and Financial Management Unit.  We received confirmation of both hires this morning and were able to share the happy news at the OSRAA Education and Outreach session. Rhonda Holcomb will be joining us on November 7 from Sea Grant, where she is currently working as a Grants and Contracts Technician. She was formerly in the UABC as an Accountant 1. Rhonda has extensive experience in grants and operations administration at Blue Mountain Community College and at the Corvallis School District. She has experience working with granting agencies and PIs, managing awards through all stages of the award, including writing, reviewing, applying, contracting, budgeting, spending, billing, reconciling, reporting, and closing grants.  Rhonda’s extensive experience in all facets of award administration will be a tremendous asset to us as Rhonda joins CFM Team O. Autumn Helenihi will be starting on November 1 in this new role, after providing support to OSRAA as a student employee while working on her degree in Accountancy at OSU. She has an extensive history in project, operations, and program management at Hewlett-Packard, Yahoo, and Kinko’s where she was responsible for short and long-term forecasts of product quality rates and costs for projects in excess. In addition to her exposure to OSRAA systems and processes over the last six months, her strong customer service focus, contract compliance, and practical accounting experience and training will be assets as she joins CFM Team O. Please join us in welcoming both Rhonda and Autumn to the OSRAA/ Research Office family!

PHOTOS OF THE WEEK- RESEARCH IN ACTION: CONSUELO CARBONELL-MOORE

image-00000002
Some of you may have taken a look at the poster hanging in the hallway by the elevators. That is the work of OSU scientist, Consuelo Carbonell-Moore who is doing work in Concarneau, Brittany! Attached are some pictures and an update: FROM DR. CARBONELL-MOORE: Work is going very well and smoothly. Lots of sampling (photo) and lots of SEM, which entails a lot of sample preparation too. The weather has been wonderful. This is a very small town, right on the ocean. The lab is by the building in the picture, originally built in the 1800’s. People are very nice. At the end of the month I will be going to Ville-de-France on the Mediterranean, not far from Niece. I will be sampling for more of the creatures of our project. I will have quite a few material to show when I get back. The most important, the research is going forward, and many new questions have risen.
