RO SPACE POLICY UPDATE

Research Office space is controlled by the VPR or her designee.  “Space” is defined as all offices, cubicles, all space designated as employee work stations, all network and telephone connections, and all associated locks and keys.  For the good of all Research Office employees, only the VPR or her designee may authorize use of space or changes in use of space.  For the same reason, only the VPR or her designee may make arrangements for changes in space (arranging key requisitions, lock changes, network/phone connections).    Designees: The Associate VPR is the VPR’s designee for authorization of space, and the VPR’s Executive Assistant is the designee for making arrangements for changes in space. Please work with your Assistant VP to communicate requests to the Associate VPR.  We are working on an electronic form for requests. For questions please contact Roy Haggerty.

CHANGES TO THE URISC, FRT , AND GENERAL RESEARCH FUND PROGRAMS

The URISC, Faculty Release Time, and General Research Fund programs are under review in the Research Office.  We are looking at changing each of these programs somewhat.  Look for a request for proposals for revised programs sometime in late fall 2016 or early winter 2017.  If you have questions, please contact the Associate Vice President for Research, Roy Haggerty, roy.haggerty@oregonstate.edu

HRPP ONLINE MEETING REQUEST FORM

The Human Research Protection Program (formerly known as the IRB Office) has held over 430 advising and study review appointments so far this year. Because Tiffany Andrews is scheduling these meetings while working from Utah, Stephen helped us create an online meeting request form to streamline the process. If this type of process is useful to anyone else in the Research Office, the form can be found at:  http://oregonstate.qualtrics.com/SE/?SID=SV_5bfKMZmdCWZBoMd

JOY DRIVE PARTICIPATION

Each year Childcare and Family Resources leads a Joy Drive to provide student families in need with gifts for the winter holiday season. They invite departments on campus to participate by sponsoring a family. The Research Office has participated in the Joy Drive for the past few years. Jillian Coleman has offered to help coordinate the Research Office’s participation in the Joy Drive this year. In the past, we have asked people who are interested in participating to donate to a fund which will then be used to purchase gifts for the families. If you are interested in participating, please let Jillian know by November 7th. Participation involves making a donation in any amount you choose to help purchase presents. If you’d like to help with coordinating our participation or shopping, you can do that too. They are also accepting donations of wrapping paper, ribbons, tape, etc. Please feel free to contact Jillian with any questions. (jillian.coleman@oregonstate.edu)

MUSIC IN THE MU TODAY AT LUNCH

OSU Music Faculty in Recital is the Music a la Carte theme for today’s concert in the MU Lounge at Noon.  One of the performances will be by Julie Meier’s brother, Dr. Robert Brudvig, Associate Professor, Percussion, who will perform “Fabian Theory” a six-minute percussion solo on the Malletkat – An electronic delay system is employed throughout the piece serving to reproduce the “live” signal 566 milliseconds (about half a second) after it has been played, thereby building a multi-marimba illusion & creating rhythmic counterpoint against a live performance.
