TSS GPO: Printer Deployment – AABC

Resolved Issues

  • The printer in 119 didn’t get documented in the initial walk-through, was hard-coded and wasn’t registered in Cyder with the correct Mac address.
  • There was one user with a converged account who wasn’t getting printers (onid\kellshan) because the GPO wasn’t applied to onid.oregonstate.edu/onid/_tss/Auxiliaries and Activities Business Center.
  • Marcia Ward was getting printers but couldn’t print. Turns out she could print to the Ricohs but not the HP because Robin had just restarted it.

Unresolved Issues
When moving ports Tim identified another occupant, Student Affairs. I will follow up with them and get them scheduled to move over to new core.

Windows Update Fix

Microsoft just released patch KB3092627 to resolve issues that were caused by previous patch KB3076895.

From Microsoft:

  • If security update 3076895 is installed on a Windows 7-based or Windows Server 2008 R2-based computer, install update 3092627.
  • If update 3090303 is installed, customers already have the fix for the issue. Therefore, they don’t have to install update 3092627. Update 3092627 is a broader GDR release of the fix in update 3090303.
I am monitoring WSUS and will have folks follow up on any failed installs.

New Core Migration: General Counsel

The Office of the General Counsel was migrated to the new core last night.

Cyder/IP change

Moved to: zone.cn_univadmin (10.160.120.150 – 10.160.123.253)

Printer change

Security group: CN_Printers_KAd 524E Ricoh MP 3351

ONID GPO: TSS – Printer Deployment – Office of the General Counsel
TSS GPO: Printer Deployment – Office of the General Counsel

Resolved Issues

  • The Worldox indexer machine (named GIDDENSB-OP780) wasn’t documented in the original port mapping so the port didn’t get moved over. I dual-registered the box so it didn’t lose connectivity and Robin had Telecom move it over to VLAN 1100.
  • Terry Meehan’s VoIP phone was documented in the original port mapping but accidentally got moved over. Robin had Telecom move it back.
  • Some customers attempted to RDP into their machines late last night and were unable to which is expected behavior.

Windows – slow logins – hotfix

Update on issues from last week:

We continue to get reports of failed updates, slow logins, SCEP scans failing, and application crashes. It seems likely at this point that all of those issues are related to the bad SCEP update.

Base team are trying the hotfix on some affected machines now. See parent ticket for updates: 0347836

BIOS Updates removed from the Build Process

The Build Bench will cease performing BIOS updates on every machine. This decision has been made after a series of bad BIOS updates that have cause delays and, at times, irresolvable hardware failure.

We will still perform BIOS updates for brand new models and firmware updates for tablets.

We recommend that BIOS updates be reserved for the later steps of the troubleshooting process.
