Heidi Hammond, from the University Administrative Business Center, will join OSRAA on March 14. Heidi has been part of the accounting staff for OSU business centers since 2011. Prior to that, she worked in various customer service- and team-focused roles, including bookkeeping, lead work, data analyzing, and product usage forecasting. She has a Business degree from OSU and a great deal of experience with OSU processes and with Banner (FIS, SIS, HRIS, and Data Warehouse). She has been providing staff training and acting as lead for payroll processing at the UABC, and she has been exposed to various grant-related transactions through the business centers, holding a certificate of completion for OPAA grants and contracts training. EPA NEWSLETTER PIECE FROM CINDY’S TRIP TO THE CORVALLIS WESTERN ECOLOGY DIVISION (WED)
Dr. Cynthia Sagers, Vice President for Research at OSU, and Dr. Craig Marcus (Head of OSU’s Dept. of Envi-ronmental and Molecular Toxicology), visited WED on Tuesday, February 16. The purpose of their visit was to discuss the new NHEERL trainee cooperative agreement which is meant to facilitate pre- and post-doctoral students’ involvement in EPA research. “Craig’s department was one of five nationwide to have won the award,” said WED Quality As-surance Manager Jim Mark-wiese, who is on OSU’s Envi-ronmental and Molecular Toxi-cology faculty. Dr. Sagers visited WED several times over the last decade while an ecologist at the Univer-sity of Arkansas. Much of that collaborative work was with WED/EEB and its gene flow research team. I appreciate your help in distributing this e-mail message to staff in your units. We will start off the meeting with “what’s new on the website” and then discuss budgeting and expending funds for building/space rental (it’s not always simple!). We’ll also talk about the F&A charges associated with those types of expenses. A Human Library functions similarly to a regular library, however the Books are real, human beings, who teach others about themselves and their experiences through interpersonal dialogue, creating opportunities for conversation and learning between two people who may normally not interact. An episode of Oregon Field Guide will air on PBS Feb 18th featuring Chris Goldfinger’s work in Bull Run Lake. Entitled “Bull Run Seismic Science” the air date: February 18, 2016 at 8.30pm on OPB/ Oregon Field Guide. The story runs around 9 minutes long. The sediment cores were collected by OSU scientific divers!

2. A lidded bucket you use indoors and empty into the outdoor cart (which the department will be responsible for washing and emptying)

RO provides:
1. Help communicating with and engaging your department/building so the bin is utilized (via emailing, signage, presentations, word-of-mouth, etc)
2. A designated person to maintain the indoor bucket (empty about 2 times per week, wash container periodically)

FOOD DRIVE UPDATE
Oregon State University is gearing up for this year’s annual Governor’s State Employee Food Drive starting Feb. 1. Last year, OSU employee donations made up 16 percent of the total state donations, with a total of 72 agencies participating. The university community donated nearly 500,000 pound-equivalents of food during the 2015 drive. The most effective way to raise money for the food drive is to participate in a payroll direct deposit. As little as $5 a month can be deducted automatically from an employee’s paycheck and the amount is taken out before taxes. We also are collecting canned goods in the front office.

In case you missed the announcement in last week’s All Staff, Rich Holdren announced the bittersweet news that he will be retiring as Assoc. VP for Research this summer. No doubt this will not be the last you hear about this…we won’t let Rich go quietly! Additionally, Pat Jones will be joining the Research Office as a contract employee assisting with many of the things Ron Adams was doing in his former role as EAVP for Commercialization. You can read more about Pat here: pljones-bio_1-06-2016. As Cindy discussed in the All Staff, the RO is hoping to recruit two AVPs to fill gaps when Rich departs, as well as the role Ron formerly had. One position focusing on the OCCD/ORD “Strategic” side of the house, the other focusing on OSRAA/ORI “Operational” functions. These proposed AVP positions as well as our current directors and AVPs will continue to have direct reporting lines to the VPR. We will update you as this plan progresses and takes shape. Feel free to reach out to your supervisors with any questions you may have!

OREGON SEA GRANT ANNOUNCES 2016-18 RESEARCH GRANT RECIPIENTS
Oregon Sea Grant, a marine research, outreach, education and communication program based at Oregon State University, is awarding $1.7 million in competitive, federally funded research grants for 2016-18.

The gifts that we purchased with the donations from the office for the Joy Drive are pictured here. In addition to providing toys for the three boys we sponsored, we were able to provide their family with a gift card to purchase food, and we purchased extra toys for additional families. MUCHO THANKS to Jillian Coleman for leading the charge!!NCURA Seminar: This was a pretty exciting event. 80 people from colleges, business center, OSRAA and internal audit services engaging and working together over two and a half days. It represents the kick-off of monthly training/education/outreach between these groups that support our faculty engaged in world-class research. OSRAA has hired two new Award Managers. Robin Shumway, from Business Affairs, will join OSRAA on December 15. Robin has been part of the Student Accounts staff in Business Affairs since January 2012. Prior to coming to OSU, she worked in Student Accounts and Business Affairs at Northwest University is Kirkland, Washington. Michelle Warf, also from Business Affairs, will join OSRAA on January 11, 2016. Michelle has been part of the Student Accounts staff since April 2012. Prior to coming to OSU, Michelle worked at the Target Distribution Center and Linn-Benton Community College. Welcome to you both!
There have been some space moves that were necessary to accommodate things:
– Sandy Cobb will sit in B306F (where Lisa used to sit)
– Robin and Michelle will both sit in B306J (where Megan McEvoy used to sit)
– Mark will move to B306I after December 31 (this is Mike’s current office)
– Lesley will join Courtney in B306D
– Eric will move back from Snell and sit in B308E (where Lesley currently sits)
– Julie will relocate to the reception area in B306
