THIS WEEK! Go Global with Fulbright: How to Go Abroad to Teach English
Join OSU National and Global Scholarships Advising (NGSA) to explore options for going abroad post-graduation to teach English! The Fulbright US Student program sponsors students with round trip airfare, a living stipend and health insurance to go abroad to a selection of over 75 different countries for one year to act as an English Teaching Assistant in foreign language classes. English Teaching Assistants (ETA’s) are flexible and dynamic members of k-12 schools or universities abroad. They assist with cultural activities and language learning at an assigned school. Being an ETA opens the door to cultural competency, communication skills and can open up possibilities for your career beyond the Fulbright year. THIS WEEK! HC x COB Discourse Movie Night!
Honors College is partnering with the College of Business Discourse Program for a screening of If Beale Street Could Talk at the Darkside Cinema on May 6 at 5 p.m..This film, based on James Baldwin’s 1974 novel, follows Tish and Fonny, a young black couple from 1970s New York City, as they try to fight the criminal justice system after Fonny was wrongfully imprisoned for a crime he did not commit. Following the movie, there will be a discussion panel with OSU faculty and staff, where students can talk about themes in the film and how we see them today. THIS WEEK! Partners in the Prompt: Co-creating AI Policy and Pedagogy with Students
Join us on May 7th from noon to 1 p.m. for the Engagement@OSU Webinar, Partners in the Prompt: Co-creating AI Policy and Pedagogy with Students, presented by Dr. Demian Hommel. In this month’s webinar, Professor Demian Hommel will explore how generative AI is reshaping higher education and why traditional top-down approaches to AI policy often miss the student perspective. This session introduces a collaborative framework for developing AI guidelines that treat students as active partners rather than passive subjects. Drawing on recent explorations of how students perceive both the risks and benefits of generative AI tools, Professor Hommel will discuss the shift from restrictive “policing” models to co-created ethical practices. Attendees will see practical strategies for bridging institutional goals with the lived realities of today’s classrooms. NEW! The Honors College annual student survey is now open and HC students are invited to participate!
The annual HC survey gathers feedback on key aspects of the honors experience to help us assess how we’re doing and guide future planning and improvements. Responses are intended to be anonymous so you can share your thoughts freely; while some demographic questions are included to help us understand whether we are fostering a welcoming environment for all students, you are always welcome to skip any question that could affect your anonymity. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey by June 30 for a chance to win a $50 Beaver Store gift card—your feedback truly makes a difference!
NEW! Honors College CPR Certification Class
The Honors College will be offering a 12-person adult CPR certification class, free of charge to the student participants! This event will take place on May 11th, 2026, from 1:30 to 5 p.m. in LINC 345. Once students pass the final exam, their adult CPR certification will be valid for two years before needing to be renewed. This is a great opportunity for students to get certified for summer work, internships and more. Please also note that this class is for adult CPR only, not infants and children. Anyone interested in attending must register, or they will not be able to attend. Once 12 students have registered, others will be put on a waitlist and notified if a spot opens up. Students who register for this event must be able to commit to this entire session, or they will not be certified. Questions about this event can be directed to Taylor Maki- makit@oregonstate.edu. NEW! HC x DPS Women’s Self-Defense Class
The Honors College is partnering with the Department of Safety for a one-day women’s self-defense class on Saturday May 23 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Cascade Hall. Students must be able to commit to the whole event. This 4-hour class will focus on awareness, prevention, risk reduction and avoidance, and provides participants with practical self-defense techniques in a supportive environment. Honors College Annual Thesis Fair
Come celebrate our HC students’ thesis research and culminating projects at our annual Thesis Fair! On Friday, May 29, students will present lightning talks in person on the Corvallis campus from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Then, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., students will showcase their honors thesis research through poster presentations on the third floor of the Learning Innovation Center, where they will be available to discuss their work. It’s a great way to learn about the different research your peers have been involved in.

The Honors College and Honors College Student Association is excited to celebrate the end of the year with honors students and faculty at the annual Honors College Spring Picnic on Wednesday, June 3, from 4–6 p.m. in the SEC Plaza. Global Medial Brigades at Oregon State University
Global Medial Brigades at Oregon State University (GMB) is a student organization committed to implementing sustainable health systems to underserved populations throughout the world. That means we volunteer and staff medical clinics and screenings in communities (mostly rural) where access to health services and information is lacking. Clinics are locally initiated and locally managed — we work with in-country doctors and nurses to support collection of health data, intake of patients, recording vitals and providing health education for adults and children. It’s a great experience for students interested in global health and any health profession. It’s also very humbling and rewarding. We’re currently preparing for our brigade in Panama in June. While that brigade is full, you might be interested in learning more about what’s involved in the experience. You might also be interested in participating in our brigade in December to Ghana — we’re in the process of putting together a brigade team for that experience now. Our meetings are on Thursdays from 5:30 to 6:30 in STAG 113. We’d love to see you there and please introduce yourself to one of the club officers. Research Participants Needed: Share Your Views on AI Chatbots like ChatGPT
The Oregon State School of Public Policy is seeking participants for a study on students’ experiences with and views on large language model tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini. Participants will complete a brief survey and an in-depth interview on these topics and will be entered into a drawing to win one of six $50 prepaid gift cards. Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU App
Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU is an app that gives all OSU students, including Ecampus students, 24/7 access by text or phone with a licensed mental health counselor (MySSP stands for “My Student Support Program”). The app makes it easy to schedule short-term counseling appointments with the same ongoing counselor and provides educational materials covering mental health topics. Students can communicate with a counselor in five different languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Spanish or English); additional language options are available upon request. Honors College Emergency Grant
The Honors College Emergency Grant supports students facing unexpected expenses related to housing and/or meals, course materials or equipment for a class, healthcare and/or mental healthcare costs, vehicle repairs necessary for travel to class, and/or travel home for family emergencies. Grants are for up to $500, with a limit of two grants during your time in the HC. Only expenses related to the above list are eligible for emergency grant support, per university policy. Tuition or other general costs of enrollment are not eligible for funding.
HC Experiential Learning Scholarship
The Honors College Experiential Learning Scholarship supports student engagement in the honors thesis (thesis proposal required), attendance at professional or academic conferences, payment of non-tuition fees associated with honors courses, or participation in an honors study abroad program. Applications are reviewed based on need, and the maximum award is $750. See here for additional information. Applications can be submitted through ScholarDollars and evaluated on a rolling basis.

Student Job: JumpstART Night Shift RA
JumpstART is a one week residential camp at Oregon State University for +/-fifty high school
students. The program blends studio art classes, visiting artist lectures, and evening activities.
The Residential staff will be employed for a one week period, Sunday, June 21-Friday, June 26.
This includes mandatory training on Sunday, June 21th, and any other times as determined by
the camp director.
Residential Assistant’s (RA) primary charge is to provide supervision for participants and ensure
their safety and well-being. Night Shift RAs supervise participants during the night when
campers are asleep in the dorms, in the morning when campers are getting ready and at

Lights of Hope Relay: Students Advocating for Change
CARE is hosting Lights of Hope, a Relay for Life event honoring cancer survivors, remembering loved ones lost and bringing the OSU community together to support the American Cancer Society. Every fall, winter and spring, the Academic Success Center offer an online workshop series on academic success topics. Workshops are held weeks 2 through 10 and cover a variety of topics to support you in your learning and study at OSU.
The Writing Center in the Valley Library offers workshops as an opportunity to engage with other students around writing topics. All workshops are 50 minutes long and take place via Zoom
