VICE PROVOST AWARDS FOR EXCELLENCE NOMINATIONS & POSTER SUBMISSIONS SOUGHT

On April 12, beginning at 11:30 a.m. at the CH2M HILL Alumni Center, OSU faculty and staff will be recognized at the University Outreach and Engagement Colloquium for outstanding contributions that significantly advance the university’s mission of outreach and engagement.

VICE PROVOST AWARDS
The Division of University Outreach and Engagement is seeking nominations for the 2016 Vice Provost Awards for Excellence. These annual awards recognize outstanding contributions by faculty and staff that significantly advance the mission of outreach and engagement. Award winners receive $1,000 provided as OSU funds in a services and supplies index and a commemorative plaque. Nominate peers across the university and/or yourself for exceptional outreach and engagement work. Award nominations are submitted online and due February 17. Award categories include:

Service – significant service by an individual to the institution, the profession, or the public
Strategic Impact – significant accomplishments by an individual or team in a program or project relevant to the signature areas of the OSU Strategic Plan
Program Support – Classified staff or professional faculty that have furthered the mission of outreach and engagement by going above and beyond their job expectations
Innovation – Candidates that have pioneered a new innovative approach to the design or execution of (1) online credit-based teaching; (2) online non-credit teaching; (3) partnerships with other public or private organizations or individuals; or (4) open educational resources
Diversity – accomplishments by an individual or team in achieving organizational changes that support diversity, pluralism and innovation in programs that enhance the outreach and engagement mission of the university

POSTER SESSION
Showcase outreach and engagement programs and community engaged scholarship to peers, university leadership and potential collaborators with a poster at the 2016 Outreach and Engagement Colloquium on April 12, 2016.The poster session is a new feature of the colloquium. Poster submissions are due February 29. In process or completed programs and community engaged scholarship by faculty, staff and OSU students are encouraged to apply for the competitive poster session. HUMAN LIBRARY FEB. 9-10

Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover. A Human Library functions similarly to a regular library, however the Books are real, human beings, who teach others about themselves and their experiences through interpersonal dialogue, creating opportunities for conversation and learning between two people who may normally not interact. Feb 9 (noon-5 p.m.) and Feb 10 (10 a.m.-3 p.m.) in the Valley Library, 4th Floor Rotunda. Event details.

OSU-RELATED EPISODE OF OREGON FIELD GUIDE- 2/18/16
An episode of Oregon Field Guide will air on PBS Feb 18th featuring Chris Goldfinger’s work in Bull Run Lake. Entitled “Bull Run Seismic Science” the air date: February 18, 2016 at 8.30pm on OPB/ Oregon Field Guide. The story runs around 9 minutes long. The sediment cores were collected by OSU scientific divers!

KITCHEN COMPOST BIN FOR RO?

If this sounds like something you think the RO would benefit from please let Mimi know. We’d need YOUR support as a team to make this work, however! There is a compost bin on the back loading dock.

FACILITIES provides:
1. An outdoor compost cart (which we service once per week)
2. A lidded bucket you use indoors and empty into the outdoor cart (which the department will be responsible for washing and emptying)
3. Instructional sign(s)
RO provides:
1. Help communicating with and engaging your department/building so the bin is utilized (via emailing, signage, presentations, word-of-mouth, etc)
2. A designated person to maintain the indoor bucket (empty about 2 times per week, wash container periodically)
What is accepted: All food waste (including animal products), fibers (napkins, coffee filters, paper towels, pizza boxes, etc), and (labeled as such)compostable serving ware
