The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) is offering a Spring ‘25 Teaching and AI faculty learning community. Participants will develop and refine teaching strategies to leverage the opportunities and meet the challenges brought about by ubiquitous generative AI tools. This learning community will provide a collaborative space to learn alongside pedagogical specialists, AI experts, and teaching colleagues from across the university.
The learning community will be co-facilitated by Academic Technologies and will provide ample practice in the use of generative AI tools. Participants will learn about opportunities to enhance teaching and learning with AI, while addressing AI-related concerns such as issues with academic integrity and bias.
Structure
The AI learning community is a professional development program that provides $1,000 to instructors who:
- Fully participate in all synchronous learning community meetings and asynchronous Canvas learning activities.
- Create plans to implement strategies that address AI in teaching in an on-campus course (Corvallis or Cascades) planned for Summer or Fall ’25.
- Present their ideas, projects, or experiences about teaching with AI at the final learning community meeting (showcase).
The learning community will blend five required Zoom meetings with online learning activities in Canvas throughout the term starting Monday, March 31. The total time commitment will average approximately 90 minutes per week. The learning community will meet on Thursdays, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on April 3 and 17, and May 1, 15, and 29.
Eligibility
Oregon State University fixed-term and tenured/tenure-track faculty who regularly teach credit-based Corvallis or Cascades campus courses are eligible to apply. AI beginners are welcome. Space is limited. Please note this learning community is not for development or redevelopment of Ecampus courses; faculty support for Ecampus courses can be found at Ecampus Faculty Support.
Application
To be considered for participation in this learning community, please submit your application by Wednesday, March 5. CTL values the participation of faculty from a wide variety of disciplines and course levels.
Participants will be notified of acceptance by March 14. Upon acceptance, the instructor, the instructor’s unit head, and CTL will sign an MOU regarding FLC participation and funding. Payment will be made after all program requirements are completed. Questions? Contact cub.kahn@oregonstate.edu
