“… education will be able to adapt to AI far more effectively than other industries, and in ways that will improve both learning and the experience of instructors.” –Ethan Mollick, The Future of Education in a World of AI
When it comes to artificial intelligence (AI) in higher education there is a lot to consider. AI is becoming more deeply intertwined in our personal and professional lives every day. Do you find any of these statements resonate with you?
- I know I need to make changes in my teaching because of generative AI tools like ChatGPT but I don’t know where to start.
- I’m excited about AI tools and how they can improve the teaching and learning environment.
- I am concerned about AI and academic integrity.
This spring, the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) and Academic Technologies (AT) will facilitate a Faculty Learning Community (FLC) addressing AI and its impact on teaching and learning. As a group, we will explore how we respond to the immediate impact, while developing proactive teaching strategies for navigating this changing landscape in academia. If you are interested in exploring this topic with colleagues across the university, you will find the Spring ’24 Faculty Learning Community on Teaching and AI (AI FLC) to be a great professional development opportunity.
The learning community blends Zoom meetings with online learning activities in Canvas and has an average weekly time commitment of 90 minutes. Sessions will be held Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. to noon, on April 10, April 24, May 8, May 22 and June 5. Interested Oregon State University fixed-term and tenured/tenure-track faculty who regularly teach credit-based Corvallis and Cascades campus courses can find the full call for participation here. $1000 in funding will be provided to successful participants. Apply by Feb. 26.
