TODAY! Winter Undergraduate Research Showcases
Curious about what Honors College students are researching? Join us for the Winter HC Undergraduate Research Showcases — dynamic online events where students present their thesis research in short, lightning-style talks. These showcases offer a glimpse into the wide range of topics our students explore and are a great way to get inspired, learn about research opportunities and connect with fellow students and faculty. After the presentations, stick around for breakout rooms with Q&A and conversation. All students, faculty, families and friends are welcome! The winter showcases will be held Monday, Feb. 2 at 5 p.m. PT via Zoom and Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 5 p.m. PT via Zoom. RSVP here.

NEW! Financial Readiness with CAFE
Join the Honors College for “Café con CAFE,” a financial wellness event! CAFE, the Center for Advancing Financial Education, is a free resource for students that provides support and education on resources and information to navigate college and make sound financial decisions. At this event, students will be learning the basics of building their own budget, that can be applied in many ways, from their meal plan to their tuition bill and everything in between! This event will take place on February 9th from 4-5pm in LINC 345. Students are encouraged to bring something to write with and on, have a general idea of their personal finances (or, at least the ones they want to build a budget for!). THIS WEEK! Dean & Friends conversation: Balancing Values and Career Goals
All Honors College students are invited to a Dean and Friends conversation with William Rowden, ’94, on Friday, February 6 from 3-3:50 p.m. PT in LInC 345 and over Zoom. Dean and Friends events are unique to the Honors College and are opportunities for current honors students to connect with alumni and other external supporters about different career paths and professional topics. For this Dean and Friends event, William will lead a discussion on the theme, “Balancing Values and Career Goals.” For those attending this event in person, coffee and snacks will be provided, and space is limited. Slug Love
Join the HC on Thursday, February 12 from 2–4:00 p.m. in the SLUG (LInC 340) to make friendship bracelets, decorate cookies and enjoy snacks! This is a drop‑in event open to all HC students. Questions or requests for accommodations can be directed to Katelyn Bye (Katelyn.Bye@oregonstate.edu).

Crafternoon with the HC!
Take an afternoon break and get creative with the Honors College! Join us on Thursday, Feb. 12 from 2-4 p.m. in the SLUG (LInC 340) for a cozy crafternoon where you can unwind, make something fun and connect with fellow HC students. All supplies will be provided — just bring yourself and your imagination. Questions about this event or accommodation requests can be directed to Taylor Maki. NEW! 1^st Annual Cascadia Classic Ballroom Competition!
Come out to support your peers and witness the wonderful world of competitive collegiate ballroom! Dancesport at OSU is hosting its first-ever Cascadia Classic ballroom competition. Dancers levels newcomer (who have only been dancing a few months) through champion (some of the best collegiate dancers in the western US) will be vying for first place in their categories on February 21st, Saturday of week 7. Come by the Women’s Building for an action-packed day of dance! NEW! Free Tax Help Night for Honors College Students
Need help filing your taxes? Oregon State University’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program is hosting a Special Tax Night for Honors College students on March 4th from 5:30pm-7:30pm in LINC 343 and 345. During this session, trained, IRS-certified volunteers will guide you step-by-step as you complete your own tax return and answer any questions you may have along the way.
This service is completely free and designed to help students feel confident filing their taxes and claiming the credits they’re eligible for. Space is limited, so advance registration is encouraged. Students must register for this event.  Sign up here.

Participants Needed for Honors Thesis Study
College-aged women at Oregon State University are invited to participate in a research study examining health literacy, breast cancer prevention, and self-efficacy. Participants may be invited to complete a one-on-one interview and will receive a $20 eGift card for their time. To determine eligibility, please complete a brief survey here.

Participants Needed for Paid Research Study
OSU researchers are seeking participants for a study on automation in air traffic control. The study requires 3.5–5 hours across two days, and participants will be compensated $20/hour. Submit Academic & Creative Works to UMN Honors Publication, Aisthesis by March 6, 2026
University of Minnesota Duluth’s Honors Program is currently seeking academic and creative submissions for the 2026 issue of Aisthesis, its undergraduate honors journal. As an interdisciplinary publication, Aisthesis welcomes academic work—including honors capstone projects, literature reviews, and research articles—from all fields. Creative submissions of nonfiction, fiction, poetry, and visual art (including but not limited to painting, sculpture, short film, multimedia, and photography) are also encouraged. If you are hoping to build your resume, share your work, and publish as an undergraduate, this is a great opportunity to do so! Submit by March 6, 2026. Survey for Honors Thesis Seeking Participants
Megan is a senior in the Honors College looking for students to participate in the study for her thesis. We would like to hear your perspective in a 30-minute survey. You will be asked questions about how well you feel you fit in at Oregon State. All of your answers will be kept confidential.
To be eligible to participate, you must: Be an OSU student; Be 18 years old or older; Communicate in English.

WEEKLY! HCSA Meeting
Join the Honors College Association (HCSA) for weekly club meetings! HCSA is a student-led club that plans activities for Honors College students. HCSA puts together social events, academic events, professional development events, and more. Join HCSA and help make great events happen! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 5-6:00 p.m. in LInC 343. If you are an Ecampus student and you are ever interested in attending virtually, please email HCSA at honorshcsa@oregonstate.edu or contact the Honors College office directly for more information and to get a zoom link. If you see an HCSA event that you would like to participate in from afar, if we have advance notice we can try to send you program supplies/items to join.

Attend Winter Honors College Community Coffee in the SLUG
All Honors College students, faculty and staff are invited to enjoy coffee, conversation and snacks at the winter term Honors College Community Coffee, on Wednesday, February 11 from 8:30 – 11 a.m. in the SLUG (LInC 340). At this HC3, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about National and Global Scholarships Advising, an OSU advising resource that supports undergraduate and graduate students and alumni who wish to explore nationally competitive scholarships. You’ll also have the opportunity to learn about Design for Social Impact, a multidisciplinary, project-driven initiative that connects students, faculty and community partners to tackle real-world challenges through design-thinking and hands-on solutions. HC Academic Advising

We hope your winter term is off to a great start! As we approach spring term registration, please review the following tips to help ensure a smooth experience:

• Check for registration holds in Beaver Hub.
  Click on the Academics tab to view holds. If you have a hold, it will need to be lifted by your major college. Many colleges require a meeting with your major academic advisor before removing the hold, but each college handles this differently. Be sure to review any hold details so you know what steps to take. For more information about viewing holds visit the Viewing Student Holds webpage.  
• Review your priority registration date and time using the instructions on the Priority Registration website.
• Find Honors courses using the instructions on the Honors College Academic Advising Canvas page.When searching for courses, remember to select “Corvallis” or “Ecampus-Online” in the campus drop-down menu. 
• First Year Engineering Corvallis Students should look to add ENGR 103H this Spring. Add ENGR 103H to your cart now on the OSU Schedule of Classes. 
• Registering for multiple HC 407 colloquia/seminars in the same term?
  You may see a “duplicate course” error -this is expected. The system will automatically issue an override after the error appears. Wait a couple of minutes, then try adding the remaining HC 407 course(s) again, as long as seats are still available. 
• Registration for Ecampus courses will open for Corvallis students Monday of week 10.  

While you are not required to meet with an Honors College academic advisor every term, we’re always happy to help. Please feel free to email or schedule an appointment anytime you have questions!

Thesis Navigator Drop-In hours in the SLUG and on Zoom:
HC Thesis Resource Navigators will be hosting drop-in hours in the SLUG and on Zoom for any questions you might have regarding your thesis. If you’re unsure where to begin, having trouble identifying mentors to connect with, or not sure how to write your Thesis Proposal (among other things), our navigators are here to guide you in the right direction. If you are unable to make it to any of their drop-in sessions, feel free to reach out to them directly by completing the Request a Navigator webform. Honors College Academic Advising Canvas Page
All HC students have access to the Honors College Academic Advising Canvas Page. This is a great resource where you can discover anything from instructions on finding honors courses to navigating the thesis process after you’ve completed the HC 408 Stage 1 thesis class. For students ready for the next steps with their thesis, this page can help with finding a thesis mentor, registering for your thesis credits, submitting your proposal and so much more.

Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU App
Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU is an app that gives all OSU students, including Ecampus students, 24/7 access by text or phone with a licensed mental health counselor (MySSP stands for “My Student Support Program”). The app makes it easy to schedule short-term counseling appointments with the same ongoing counselor and provides educational materials covering mental health topics. Students can communicate with a counselor in five different languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Spanish or English); additional language options are available upon request. NEW THIS WEEK! Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competition
Curious what Oregon State doctoral students are studying? This is your opportunity to get a quick glimpse into Ph.D.-level research for a civilian audience on Wednesday, Feb. 4 from 4-5:30 p.m. in MU 104. Competitors have just three minutes on stage. Prizes will be awarded for the top three competitors, and the overall winner will be eligible to compete in the Western Association of Graduate Schools (WAGS) Regional Competition.

Connect with an OHSU physician and learn about medical pathways! Dr. Maureen Baldwin (M.D., M.P.H.) will be speaking on her current work at OHSU and her journey getting there. NEW! Peer Health Summit Invitation
The Oregon State University Student Health Advisory Board (SHAB) invites students to attend their Peer Health Summit on Saturday, February 28th from 12-4:00PM in the Memorial Union Horizon Room. The Peer Health Summit is an interactive event hosted by SHAB that brings students together to learn, share, and engage with topics related to health and wellness. Attendees will participate in workshops, hear from student health leaders, and gain practical knowledge to support both their own well-being and that of their peers. This summit also offers a valuable opportunity for students to attend a non-academic conference that they can list on their résume while building skills applicable to campus and community health initiatives.

NEW! The Honors College is hiring Student Ambassadors!
These part-time student positions play a key role in welcoming future Beavers to the Honors College. Ambassadors host information sessions, support recruitment events and help maintain a positive, professional and inclusive office environment. This role also offers opportunities to build key career-readiness skills in communication, teamwork, critical thinking, leadership and professionalism. Applicants must be current Honors College students with at least one term completed and have taken or be taking the Stage 1 Thesis Course. Internship at the Michigan Clinical Outcomes Reserach andd Reporting (MCORRP) Program
Become an HC Representative at the Michigan Clinical Outcomes Research and Reporting (MCORRP) Program. Through a generous gift by Dr. Kim Eagle, ’76, the Honors College is pleased to offer a paid internship with the Michigan Clinical Outcomes Research and Reporting Program (MCORRP). This summer internship program is a 10-week opportunity, starting in early June and concluding in August, at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor. The internship includes a stipend, as well as a housing and travel allowance. To apply students should be interested in pursuing a career in healthcare and be a strong steward of OSU and the Honors College. Apply Now! Summer Research with IoT4Ag
Are you interested in the societal grand challenge of food, energy, and water security? The IoT4Ag Engineering Research Center creates Internet of Things technologies for precision agriculture. They are looking for summer undergraduate researchers! Students who are majoring in science and engineering degree programs will spend 10 weeks during May–August contributing to cutting-edge research related to sensors, robotics, and collecting and analyzing data to increase crop production using fewer resources. Applications are reviewed, and offers made, on a rolling basis (deadline: February 27, 2026). Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must not graduate before September 2026. Read more about the program and apply here.

$6,000 Paid Summer Research Program in Hypersonic Engineering (HYPER REU)
The HYPER REU explores challenges in hypersonic flight and advanced energy systems through a 10‑week hands‑on research experience (May 17–July 24, 2026). Students work with faculty mentors, join a multidisciplinary research team, visit NASA Kennedy Space Center and aerospace companies, participate in professional development, and receive training in ANSYS. Research Assistants Wanted: Cognition and Action in Real and Virtual Environments

Designing and Characterizing Acoustic Metamaterials – Student Research Opportunity
Dr. Shuai Wu (College of Engineering) is seeking students interested in hands-on research designing and testing active metamaterials that control acoustic waves. Students will help build an acoustic measurement setup, conduct characterization experiments, and verify results through finite element simulations. Phytochemical Research in Pasture‑Based Dairy Systems
Dr. Serkan Ates (Animal & Rangeland Sciences) is seeking up to two students to join a research project exploring how phytochemicals in pasture forbs can improve sustainability, animal health, and methane reduction in dairy systems. Students will gain hands-on experience identifying key plant species, conducting chemical analyses of bioactive compounds, and measuring methane emissions using both laboratory and field methods. This interdisciplinary work offers valuable training in agronomy, animal science, and environmental sustainability. Students: Borrow your Textbooks for Free!
The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Visit their Textbook Lending Program website to see resources available at the BNC. Visit the BNC in-person at Champinefu Lodge to check out course materials.

Academic Success Center Online Workshops

Workshops are a great way to improve your writing, create better study habits, or learn a new skill. This list of online workshops is offered as a resource to succeed on campus:

Every fall, winter and spring, the Academic Success Center offer an online workshop series on academic success topics. Workshops are held weeks 2 through 10 and cover a variety of topics to support you in your learning and study at OSU.

The Writing Center in the Valley Library offers workshops as an opportunity to engage with other students around writing topics. All workshops are 50 minutes long and take place via Zoom

HC Resources

The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy.
