THIS WEEK! DIY Zen Gardens with CLA
The HC is excited to be partnering with the College of Liberal Arts for a DIY Zen Garden night! HC students are invited to attend this fun event in Bexell Hall Lounge on March 10th from 3-5pm. HC students will be able to make their own zen gardens with students from the College of Liberal Arts, providing a fun opportunity to meet new students while making something fun for their mental health care. NEW! RESEARCH OPPORTUNITY! Ground Beetle Genomics & Species Boundaries
Honors students interested in genetics, biodiversity research, or bioinformatics are invited to apply for a new research position with Dr. David Maddison in Integrative Biology. This project investigates species boundaries and gene flow in western North American ground beetles and offers hands‑on experience in field work, microscopy, genomic sequencing, and computational analysis. The selected student will join a small research team—including Dr. Maddison and a graduate student—and the position is designed to support an Honors thesis. Students with an interest in genetics, comfort with computers or programming (or eagerness to learn), and curiosity about combining science and art in research are encouraged to apply. NEW! Research Participants Needed: Share Your Views on AI Chatbots like ChatGPT
The Oregon State School of Public Policy is seeking participants for a study on students’
experiences with and views on large language model tools such as ChatGPT and Gemini. Participants will complete a brief survey and an in-depth interview on these topics and will be entered into a drawing to win one of six $50 prepaid gift cards. Participants Needed for Paid Research Study
OSU researchers are seeking participants for a study on automation in air traffic control. The study requires 3.5–5 hours across two days, and participants will be compensated $20/hour. DSI 415H, MULTIDISCIPLINARY DESIGN FOR SOCIAL IMPACT, 4 Credits (Via Ecampus)
Need help finding a thesis research project? DSI 415/415H utilizes design thinking and methodologies through project and multidisciplinary team-based learning to develop real-world solutions to complex problems of importance in society. It promotes collaboration across arts, business, engineering, humanities, and the sciences as well as other disciplines. Projects are sponsored by real clients like non-profit organizations or research faculty at OSU. Some honors students have used this class as an opportunity to kick start their thesis work and identify a faculty research mentor. Ecampus enrollment restriction ends week 10 and on campus students may enroll.
SLUGGER Magazine Looking for Student Artists
SLUGGER is a horror magazine that publishes three issues per year, including a special issue that features short stories written by students enrolled in HC 407: Body Horror. Students illustrate each story with an original piece of artwork. Check it out at sluggerfiction.com. We are expanding our roster of student artists. Please reach out if you’re interested in learning more.
WEEKLY! HCSA Meeting
Join the Honors College Association (HCSA) for weekly club meetings! HCSA is a student-led club that plans activities for Honors College students. HCSA puts together social events, academic events, professional development events, and more. Join HCSA and help make great events happen! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 5-6:00 p.m. in LInC 343. If you are an Ecampus student and you are ever interested in attending virtually, please email HCSA at honorshcsa@oregonstate.edu or contact the Honors College office directly for more information and to get a zoom link. If you see an HCSA event that you would like to participate in from afar, if we have advance notice we can try to send you program supplies/items to join.
HC Academic Advising
We hope your winter term is off to a great start! As we approach spring term registration, please review the following tips to help ensure a smooth experience:
- Check for registration holds in Beaver Hub.
Click on the Academics tab to view holds. If you have a hold, it will need to be lifted by your major college. Many colleges require a meeting with your major academic advisor before removing the hold, but each college handles this differently. Be sure to review any hold details so you know what steps to take. For more information about viewing holds visit the Viewing Student Holds webpage. - Review your priority registration date and time using the instructions on the Priority Registration website.
- Find Honors courses using the instructions on the Honors College Academic Advising Canvas page.When searching for courses, remember to select “Corvallis” or “Ecampus-Online” in the campus drop-down menu.
- First Year Engineering Corvallis Students should look to add ENGR 103H this Spring. Add ENGR 103H to your cart now on the OSU Schedule of Classes.
- Registering for multiple HC 407 colloquia/seminars in the same term?
You may see a “duplicate course” error -this is expected. The system will automatically issue an override after the error appears. Wait a couple of minutes, then try adding the remaining HC 407 course(s) again, as long as seats are still available. - Registration for Ecampus courses will open for Corvallis students Monday of week 10.
While you are not required to meet with an Honors College academic advisor every term, we’re always happy to help. Please feel free to email or schedule an appointment anytime you have questions!

Thesis Navigator Drop-In hours in the SLUG and on Zoom:
HC Thesis Resource Navigators will be hosting drop-in hours in the SLUG and on Zoom for any questions you might have regarding your thesis. If you’re unsure where to begin, having trouble identifying mentors to connect with, or not sure how to write your Thesis Proposal (among other things), our navigators are here to guide you in the right direction. If you are unable to make it to any of their drop-in sessions, feel free to reach out to them directly by completing the Request a Navigator webform. Honors College Academic Advising Canvas Page
All HC students have access to the Honors College Academic Advising Canvas Page. This is a great resource where you can discover anything from instructions on finding honors courses to navigating the thesis process after you’ve completed the HC 408 Stage 1 thesis class. For students ready for the next steps with their thesis, this page can help with finding a thesis mentor, registering for your thesis credits, submitting your proposal and so much more.
Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU App
Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU is an app that gives all OSU students, including Ecampus students, 24/7 access by text or phone with a licensed mental health counselor (MySSP stands for “My Student Support Program”). The app makes it easy to schedule short-term counseling appointments with the same ongoing counselor and provides educational materials covering mental health topics. Students can communicate with a counselor in five different languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Spanish or English); additional language options are available upon request. Nordic Scholars Leadership Program (NSLI) – Fully Funded Opportunity
Applications are now open for the 2026 Nordic Scholars Leadership Program, a fully funded, highly selective leadership development experience in Sweden (Sept. 1–13, 2026). NSLI is designed for mature juniors, seniors, recent graduates, and early graduate students ready for advanced, practice‑oriented leadership formation. Participants engage directly with senior leaders across public, private, and civic institutions while exploring Nordic approaches to innovation, governance, and collaboration. Last year’s pilot cohort admitted just 9% of applicants and demonstrated significant growth in leadership capacity and judgment. Students with reflective maturity, intellectual seriousness, and interest in leadership beyond the classroom are encouraged to apply.

Alternative Spring Break
Students can now apply for the 2026 OSU Alternative Spring Break trips happening this March. Alt. Break is open to ALL OSU students: undergrad & grad students in Corvallis, Ecampus, and Cascades. Study Abroad in London with the HC
The 2026 Honors College London Experience will allow students to earn 4 baccalaureate core credits as well as 2 seminar credits while studying and exploring London with Oregon State University faculty from Aug. 15 – Sept. 5, 2026. In addition to classroom hours, the program faculty have designed a careful excursion schedule to maximize the learning outcomes. As an example, students will have an opportunity to visit the British Museum, the Tower of London, Westminster Abbey, and many other museums and attractions. Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities
UPCOMING! Honors College 2026-2027 Scholarship Application Opens March 16
The Honors College recognizes that paying the differential tuition associated with HC enrollment can present a significant challenge. The Honors College Differential Tuition Scholarship is designed to make sure that students who are fully engaged with their HC education are not forced to withdraw due to the cost of enrollment in the college. Supported by donations from the Honors College community, Differential Tuition Scholarships are for $810-$1,620 for one academic year. The application for 2026-2027 Differential Tuition Scholarships will open Mon, Mar. 16. The deadline to apply is 11:59 p.m. on Sun, Apr. 19. All students who wish to be considered for a 2026-2027 continuing student scholarship in the Honors College should apply to the Honors College Differential Tuition Scholarship through ScholarDollars. Only returning and continuing Honors College students who are making progress toward completion of Honors College degree requirements are eligible to receive a scholarship. Honors College Emergency Grant
The Honors College Emergency Grant supports students facing unexpected expenses related to housing and/or meals, course materials or equipment for a class, healthcare and/or mental healthcare costs, vehicle repairs necessary for travel to class, and/or travel home for family emergencies. Grants are for up to $500, with a limit of two grants during your time in the HC. Only expenses related to the above list are eligible for emergency grant support, per university policy. Tuition or other general costs of enrollment are not eligible for funding.
HC Experiential Learning Scholarship
The Honors College Experiential Learning Scholarship supports student engagement in the honors thesis (thesis proposal required), attendance at professional or academic conferences, payment of non-tuition fees associated with honors courses, or participation in an honors study abroad program. Applications are reviewed based on need, and the maximum award is $750. See here for additional information. Applications can be submitted through ScholarDollars and evaluated on a rolling basis..

Announcing the Summer 2026 MACO-Supported Internships! Marine and Coastal Opportunities (MACO) has three amazing opportunities to get involved with marine science communication, policy, and data analysis this summer on the Oregon Coast! These PAID ten-week, full-time internships run from June 15, 2026, to August 21, 2026, and include shared field housing. Opportunities for Summer 2026 include:
Exhibition Evaluation Intern at the Oregon Coast Aquarium – develop ocean-focused messaging and evaluate how visitors engage with the exhibits. Applications due March 13, 2026!

NEW! Warren Lab Elliott and Hinkle 2026 Field Technicians
The Department of Forest Ecosystems & Society is hiring 5 undergraduate summer technicians for their stream and riparian area ecology project. This project is working on pre- restoration data collection in the Elliott State Forest. Work will include sampling fish communities as well as measuring associated habitat and food web dynamics. There will also be some work conducted in the riparian areas of study sites to survey amphibian, ungulate and avian species presence. View details of the position here. $6,000 Paid Summer Research Program in Hypersonic Engineering (HYPER REU)
The HYPER REU explores challenges in hypersonic flight and advanced energy systems through a 10‑week hands‑on research experience (May 17–July 24, 2026). Students work with faculty mentors, join a multidisciplinary research team, visit NASA Kennedy Space Center and aerospace companies, participate in professional development, and receive training in ANSYS. Undergraduate Research Opportunity with Animal & Rangeland Sciences
Honors College students interested in hands‑on agricultural and laboratory research are invited to apply for a new opportunity with Dr. Massimo Bionaz in the College of Agricultural Sciences. One or two students will assist with an ongoing study examining the effects of feeding hempseed meal to lactating dairy cows. Students will gain experience managing cows, collecting samples and performing laboratory assays, including measuring blood parameters, analyzing nitrogen in urine and feces using liquid chromatography and evaluating milk fatty acid composition using gas chromatography. There is also potential to participate in cannabinoid analysis of milk using LC‑MS. This position is in‑person on the Corvallis campus only. The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. Workshops are a great way to improve your writing, create better study habits, or learn a new skill. This list of online workshops is offered as a resource to succeed on campus:
Every fall, winter and spring, the Academic Success Center offer an online workshop series on academic success topics. Workshops are held weeks 2 through 10 and cover a variety of topics to support you in your learning and study at OSU.
The Writing Center in the Valley Library offers workshops as an opportunity to engage with other students around writing topics. All workshops are 50 minutes long and take place via Zoom

The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy.
