There will no access for parking or deliveries. Deliveries to LInC will be rerouted to the EH&S Annex for the day.  Alternate pedestrian routes will be noted with signs.  

TODAY! Honors College Alumni Pathways Conversation – Research pathways in biomedicine with Chelsea Parker Harp, ’12
All honors students are invited to meet over Zoom with HC alum Chelsea Parker Harp, ’12, on Mon, Nov 10 from 4-4:50 p.m. Pacific Time over Zoom to learn more about her pathway into biomedical research. Chelsea received her H.B.S. in biochemistry and biophysics, with minors in chemistry and philosophy. She then earned a Ph.D. in 2018, studying a model of Multiple Sclerosis to study how different immune cells coordinate and perpetuate autoimmunity in the central nervous system. Chelsea is now a senior scientist at Seismic Tx, working to bring novel biologic therapies to the clinic for autoimmunity indications. Before this, she was a biology project representative for one of two lead assets targeting inflammatory pathways at Montai Health, a Flagship Pioneering Company in Cambridge, MA. She has also worked in the multiple sclerosis and neuroinflammation research unity at Biogen, where she led a partnered program for PROTAC therapy targeting CNS resident inflammation. Get the Zoom link by RSVPing here!

THIS WEEK! Honors College Dean and Friends Coffee Conversation – Leadership and Communication, with Tom Harvey
All honors students are invited to a Dean and Friends Conversation on Friday, November 14th from 3-3:50 p.m. in LInC 343 (or over Zoom) on “Cross-Functional Team Leadership and Communication,” with Tom Harvey. Tom is the parent of a current Honors College student and is a Boeing Designated Expert in high-pressure systems integration in the Boeing Environmental Control System Design Center, where he leads and builds cross-functional teams to resolve high-priority technical issues and initiatives. He has his B.S. in mechanical engineering from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Washington, focusing on management of technology programs. Tom has been with the Boeing Company since 1997 in a variety of roles and is a certified Project Management Professional and Boeing Lean Leader for Value Stream Mapping. For those attending this Dean and Friends event in person, coffee and snacks will be provided, and space is limited. RSVP for the event here.

NEW THIS WEEK! Free Film Friday: The People vs. Agent Orange
Free Film Friday is a series of free films presented by The Honors College, College of Liberal Arts and School of History, Philosophy and Religion on conflict and warfare ecology. This week’s screening is on Friday, Nov. 14 at 4 p.m. in Milam Auditorium (Milam 026) featuring The People vs. Agent Orange, an award-winning documentary that explores the environmental and human impact of Agent Orange, connecting stories from Vietnam to Oregon. Following the 90-minute film, Dr. Jacob Darwin Hamblin will introduce reflections from Honors College students, with a Q&A to follow. Free and open to all students!

NEW! HC Juniors and Seniors: Participate in Online vs. In-Person Lab Study
Researchers in the School of Mechanical, Industrial, and Manufacturing Engineering and the School of Psychological Science at OSU are conducting a study investigating the effectiveness of online and in-person lab environments for engineering education. In this study you will be asked to learn a relevant engineering topic and complete an associated lab exercise. Participation includes a time commitment of 6-10 hours spread over a 2-week period during Fall term, and a compensation of $20 per hour of participation (up to $200 total). To be eligible, you must be 18 years or older, fluent in English, and a junior- or senior-level undergraduate engineering student. To enroll in this study or if you have any questions about participating, please fill out this form or contact Gabrielle Paul (paulga@oregonstate.edu).

HC Freshmen: Help Participate in Research on Imposter Syndrome
Olivia Bell, a honors psychology major at Harding University, is conducting an IRB-approved research study examining the experiences of freshmen honors students. This study explores the relationship between impostor phenomenon and academic motivation among honors freshmen. Participation is completely voluntary, and all responses will remain anonymous. The survey takes about 10 to 15 minutes to complete.
The insights from this study may help honors programs better understand how to support students as they transition into college. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Olivia at obell@harding.edu.

Fall Undergraduate Research Showcases
Curious about what Honors College students are researching? Join us for the HC Undergraduate Research Showcases — dynamic online events where students present their thesis research in short, lightning-style talks. These showcases offer a glimpse into the wide range of topics our students explore and are a great way to get inspired, learn about research opportunities and connect with fellow students and faculty. After the presentations, stick around for breakout rooms with Q&A and conversation. All students, faculty, families and friends are welcome! WEEKLY! HCSA Meeting
Join the Honors College Association (HCSA) for weekly club meetings! HCSA is a student-led club that plans activities for Honors College students. HCSA puts together social events, academic events, professional development events, and more. Join HCSA and help make great events happen! The Honors College Student Association holds general meetings every Monday from 5-6:00 p.m. in LInC 268.

Resources for Food & Housing Support

Supporting OSU Community SNAP Recipients During the Federal Shutdown
Oregon State University cares for OSU community members facing food insecurity and financial stress. The Basic Needs Center (BNC) and university partners are preparing for potential impacts of the federal government shutdown on SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program). The resources offered below may be of help to our community navigating this challenge.

Support of Basic Needs at OSU-Cascades: The Associated Students of Cascades Campus (ASCC) and the Student Care Case Manager (contact charlotte.scott@osucascades.edu)  are great starting points for information about accessing basic needs support at OSU-Cascades and in Central Oregon.  ASCC has several Student Support Programs, including a food pantry, basic needs products, and emergency housing and childcare subsidies.

Peer Navigator Services:
Peer Navigators can help students access resources like food programs, cost-effective meal strategies, and employment opportunities.
Drop-in at BNC (Champinefu Lodge, 1030 SW Madison Ave)
Hours: M–Th 8am–6pm, F 8am–3pm

Grocery Support Programs:
Food Pantry on the Corvallis Campus: Most Wednesdays, Basic Needs Center from 8am–2pm (check @bncatosu on Instagram or call 541-737-9127 for updates). This program also supports staff who meet income qualifications. 

Food Pantry on the OSU-Cascades Campus: Visit the pantry at the Student Government office on Mondays and Thursdays from 6pm to 10pm; Tuesdays from 11am to 1pm; and Wednesdays from 4pm to 10pm.


Beaver Healthy Boosts on the Corvallis Campus: Fridays, 12–1:30pm (while supplies last).
Food Pantry on the OSU-Cascades Campus: Mondays and Thursdays from 6pm to 10pm; Tuesdays from 11am to 1pm; and Wednesdays from 4pm to 10pm.
 
“Forgot Your Lunch?” Station in the SLUG
The Honors College offers a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station in the SLUG kitchen area for HC students who need a light meal. Whether you forgot your lunch or are running low on funds, you’re welcome to use this free, self-serve resource anytime the SLUG is open. Food is available in the kitchen cabinets and freezer. Please take only what you need so there’s enough for everyone. 
Updated SLUG Hours:

  • Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • Friday – 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday – Closed
  • Sunday – 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sustaining Basic Needs Efforts:
Financial gifts to the Beavers Fight Hunger fund help our Basic Needs Center (BNC) student leaders support their peers in creating strategies for meeting their basic needs while in college and long-term, plus provide the immediate assistance they need through the BNC food pantry on the Corvallis campus and the Associated Students of Cascades Food Pantry at OSU-Cascades. Contributions are particularly welcome at this difficult time.

HC Academic Advising

Hello HC Beavs!

As we approach registration week next week, we wanted to provide you with a few reminders.

  1. If you haven’t done so already, make sure you don’t have an Advising Registration Hold still on your account. If you do, schedule an appointment with your major college advisor to get that lifted. The HC Advisors cannot lift this hold. If you already met with your major college advisor, but still see the Advising Registration Hold, kindly reach out to them via email to request the hold be lifted.
  2. If you are a first-year student and have not yet taken the HC 408 Stage 1 Thesis Class, try to register for it Winter term. Make sure when registering that you take Stage 1 and not one of our other stage courses.
  3. For quick reminders on how to find honors versions of classes, check out our HC Canvas page How to Find HC Courses.   
  4. If you are planning to take more than one HC 407 seminar class in a term, note that you will originally receive an error code stating that you cannot register for more than one class with the same name. The registrar’s office has created an automatic override to be placed on HC student accounts to fix this error code. Wait a few moments, and try to register again.

For students ready for the next steps with their thesis, this page can help with finding a thesis mentor, registering for your thesis credits, submitting your proposal and so much more.

Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU App
Anytime Anywhere: MySSP @ OSU is an app that gives all OSU students, including Ecampus students, 24/7 access by text or phone with a licensed mental health counselor (MySSP stands for “My Student Support Program”). The app makes it easy to schedule short-term counseling appointments with the same ongoing counselor and provides educational materials covering mental health topics. Students can communicate with a counselor in five different languages (Mandarin, Cantonese, French, Spanish or English); additional language options are available upon request. Study Abroad

NEW! Study Abroad in South Africa: Honors Thesis Opportunity!
Join OSU faculty and South African experts for a unique, research-based field course in Kruger National Park, South Africa from Aug. 16–Sept. 3, 2026. Explore the intersections of human, animal and environmental health through hands-on experiences with wildlife veterinarians, medical doctors and conservationists. This interdisciplinary program fulfills the One Health Certificate research requirement and offers 9 credits across VMB courses. Students can propose their own research projects and potentially expand them into an Honors Thesis. Attend an info session to learn more on Thursday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. Dryden Hall 104 or via Zoom. UPCOMING! Information sessions – Visit France With the HC This Summer 
Based in Lyon, France, this 17-day program is led by OSU faculty and runs from June 16 to July 2, 2026. Students earn four colloquium credits through activities integrating the theme of “Commodities, Cafes and Climate Change.” An Information and Q&A Session for the 2026 France program will be on Monday, Nov. 17 from 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. in the Autzen Classroom in Valley Library (Room 2082, located on the same floor as the main entrance). This is a “drop in” session, so please come when you can and leave when you must, even if your schedule only will allow a short stay. Exploring Scotland’s Cultural Heritage: Historic Sites and 3D Scanning in Preservation
Faculty-led Trip to Scotland: Edinburgh, Oban and Surrounding Area. Occurs within Summer Term Session 2: June 22 – July 17, 2026 (4 weeks)
Discover the beauty and rich history of Scotland on this two-week faculty led program. Throughout the trip students will examine how 3D scanning technology is revolutionizing historic preservation, digitally capturing these important sites for future generations. The program begins in Edinburgh, where you’ll explore famous landmarks such as Edinburgh Castle, St. Giles Cathedral, the underground streets of Real Mary King’s, the National Museum of Scotland, and the Princess Street Gardens. One full day will include a train trip to Stirling Castle. During the second stage of our journey, you’ll travel to Oban in the West Highlands. There you’ll experience the grandeur of Glencoe, visit the Isle of Mull, tour Inveraray Castle and discover neolithic monuments in Kilmartin Glen. Finally, you’ll travel back to Edinburgh where you will take day trips to other important sites, including St. Andrews, Linlithgow Palace, Craigmillar Castle, Blackness Castle, and Rosslyn Chapel, where scenes of the Da Vinci Code were filmed. Visits are also planned to the Scottish Parliament and Holyroodhouse, the official Scottish residence of the British monarch. This incredible program explores Scotland’s complex history and cutting-edge digital historic preservation methods. We hope you will join us!

Crime & Punishment in the UK: Fact & Fiction
Join OSU Faculty leaders Susan Shaw and Michelle Inderbitzen from the College of Liberal Arts on a 6 credit, two week faculty-led program in London, England this summer.

Aruba Spring Break 2026 Study Abroad Program – Sustainability in Action: Small Island State Ecological Systems, Culture and Society
Spend Spring Break 2026 in Aruba earning 4 credits while exploring island ecosystems, culture, and renewable energy. The program runs March 21–29 in Aruba, with follow-up Zoom sessions in April. Zoom info sessions are coming up on Nov. 18, Dec. 3 and Jan. 3. The priority deadline to apply is Dec. 19 and the final deadline is Jan. 19. Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities

Honors College Emergency Grant
The Honors College Emergency Grant supports students facing unexpected expenses related to housing and/or meals, course materials or equipment for a class, healthcare and/or mental healthcare costs, vehicle repairs necessary for travel to class, and/or travel home for family emergencies. Grants are for up to $500, with a limit of two grants during your time in the HC. Only expenses related to the above list are eligible for emergency grant support, per university policy. Tuition or other general costs of enrollment are not eligible for funding.

HC Experiential Learning Scholarship
The Honors College Experiential Learning Scholarship supports student engagement in the honors thesis (thesis proposal required), attendance at professional or academic conferences, payment of non-tuition fees associated with honors courses, or participation in an honors study abroad program. Applications are reviewed based on need, and the maximum award is $750. See here for additional information. Applications can be submitted through ScholarDollars and evaluated on a rolling basis.

NEW! Openings at Writing Center and Academic Support Center
The OSU Writing Center plans to hire around 10-15 consultants to support their peers with a variety of writing projects, such as assignments for class, application materials, and scholarship essays. You don’t need to identify as a writing expert to succeed in this position. They are looking for students who want to have conversations with other students about their writing, to listen and ask thoughtful questions, and to offer a reader’s perspective. 
Academic Success Center is also hiring Supplemental Instruction Leader positions. Applicants to this posting will be contacted in the case of an opening on the SI team on an as needed basis. Supplemental Instruction (SI) employs leaders supporting BA 211, BA 213, BA 275, BI 20x, BI 22x, BI 23x, CH 12x, CH 23x, CH 33x, CS 162, ECON 201, ECON 202, MTH 111, MTH 112, MTH 241, MTH 251, MTH 252, MTH 254, PH 20X, and PH 21×.

Graduate Program in Biomedical Research at the University of Oklahoma Health Campus
The Graduate Program in Biomedical Sciences (GPiBS) is a first-year, interdisciplinary program serving seven degree programs at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC). Students will graduate with a PhD from one of the participating programs to prepare them for careers in biomedical sciences. OU Health Sciences Center is one of only a few comprehensive academic health centers in the nation. Internationally prominent faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, cutting-edge technology, and nearly $200 million in external funding combine to make GPiBS the leader in graduate education and research in Oklahoma. The application for the 2026 GPiBS class opened on August 1st, 2025 with a priority deadline of December 1st, 2025. OUHSC is a comprehensive medical campus home to cutting edge research facilities and top-tier scientists. Summer Research for Biomedical Undergrads at OUHSC
The Graduate College at OU Health Sciences hosts five Summer Undergraduate Research Programs (SURP) aimed at preparing and encouraging undergraduate students to pursue careers in biomedical research or health-related sciences. SURP look forward to continuing 5 programs next summer (CURE, U-CARE, NARCH, OK-INBRE, and SURE). The SURP applications will open in November with a deadline of January 31st, 2026. Truckin’ Tuesday is community event hosted by the Memorial Union Activities Team focused on bringing different types of foods to campus through food trucks! Most Tuesday’s there will be a variety of trucks next to the MU Quad open to students, staff, and the public. This is a chance for people of all ages on the OSU campus to try new foods, support local businesses, and add a little bit of sparkle to their Tuesdays.

The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more.
