Moving off-campus next year? Unsure of what your options and next steps are? Join Honors College staff and students, in collaboration with some Res Ed staff to hear more about options available, questions you should be asking, and red flags to look out for.

NEW THIS WEEK! CEOAS, CAS, COF Faculty Research Showcase
Tues. 4-5:30 p.m. at LInC 228 or online. Faculty and researchers in the College(s) of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences , Ag. Sciences and Forestry will present lightning talks (3-5 mins) about their research. After presentations presenters will be available to answer questions over snacks.
Faculty Research Showcases are an excellent way to connect with faculty members, learn more about their research, and potentially get involved in projects that could be the basis of an HC thesis. Even if you don’t yet feel ready to begin research or are not sure about your interests, attending these events help you explore opportunities and make connections with students and researchers.

All Honors College students are invited to a Dean and Friends conversation with Rich Smith, ’85, on Wed. Feb. 12 from 4:00-4:50 p.m. PST in LInC 343 and over Zoom. Honors College Dean and Friends conversations are opportunities for honors students to connect with Oregon State University alumni and friends in an informal setting and learn more about professional pathways and issues. Scholarship & Financial Aid Opportunities
Application Now Open for 2025 Schoenstein Sustaining Excellence Scholarship
Applications are being accepted for the 2025 Schoenstein Sustaining Excellence Scholarship! The scholarship honors and recognizes OSU undergraduates who are community engaged leaders actively involved in activities beyond course work and who have demonstrated that they are committed to advancing a more caring, equitable, and socially just OSU and/or local community. Apply via Scholar Dollars bySat. Feb. 15. Six (6) students will be awarded a one-time scholarship in the amount of $2,000. Funded Opportunity for Undergrads through Oregon Sea Grant
The Oregon Sea Grant Scholars Program is now accepting applications for the Summer Scholars Program, a paid 10-week program that places undergraduate students and students that graduated in the 2024-2025 academic year with a variety of Oregon based host organizations (Tribal, public agency, non-profit, non-governmental). Sites include in-person and remote opportunities. Students from around the country, and international students, are welcome to apply. Applications must be submitted by Mon.Feb. 17. Honors College Emergency Grant
The Honors College Emergency Grant supports students facing unexpected expenses, including housing, meals, course materials, healthcare, vehicle repairs, and travel for family emergencies. Grants are up to $500 per term, with a limit of two grants during your time in the HC. Honors College differential tuition is not covered.
HC Experiential Learning Scholarship
The Honors College Experiential Learning Scholarship supports student engagement in the honors thesis (thesis proposal required), attendance at professional or academic conferences, payment of non-tuition fees associated with honors courses, or participation in an honors study abroad program. Applications are reviewed based on need, and the maximum award is $750. See here for additional information. Applications can be submitted through ScholarDollars and evaluated on a rolling basis.

NEW! Oregon Health and Science University Postbaccalaureate Research Education Program – Now Accepting Applications
OHSU PREP is a one-year, NIH-funded research intensive postbaccalaureate research program. The focus of OHSU PREP is to support the development of diverse postbac researchers in STEM and enhance their transition to a PhD program in biomedical research. Not only do we provide research experience and professional skill development, we also provide financial support in varying ways: A competitive research assistant salary and health benefits (approx. $39k/year); Relocation support up to $1000; Professional development funds to support graduate school application fees, professional society memberships, online courses, technology, registration and attendance to one national conference, etc. Additional information, including signing up for one of our upcoming information sessions, can be found on our website. VIEW aims to support students without previous experience in this field. OSU Student Energy Analyst Position
Would you be interested in an on-campus job working with industry clients to reduce energy use and improve productivity, while applying what you are learning in your classes? The OSU Energy Efficiency Center (EEC) is looking for motivated student energy/technical analysts to work part-time during the school year (10-15 hrs/week) and during the summer (30-40 hrs/week). The OSU EEC offers comprehensive, student-led, on-site energy and productivity assessments to small and medium-sized manufacturers through a US Department of Energy funded program. Student teams advised by engineering faculty visit manufacturers and seek ways to increase their productivity and reduce energy use and waste. These engineering analyses and improvement recommendations are compiled into a report and delivered to the client. University Legislative Scholars Applications Open
The University Legislative Scholars (ULS) program offers a year-long opportunity to engage with public policy at the state and federal levels. Students can join tuition-free or for two credits per term. Participants meet with legislators, learn about government careers, visit the State Capitol, and build connections with peers. Truckin’ Tuesdays at the Memorial Union
Truckin’ Tuesday is community event hosted by the Memorial Union Activities Team focused on bringing different types of foods to campus through food trucks! Most Tuesday’s there will be a variety of trucks next to the MU Quad open to students, staff, and the public. This is a chance for people of all ages on the OSU campus to try new foods, support local businesses, and add a little bit of sparkle to their Tuesdays.

The Basic Needs Center (BNC) has a Textbook Lending Library open to all on-campus students that includes books, calculators, chemistry model sets, and more. The Honors College main office in LInC 450 is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. HC staff is on hand during business hours to assist with questions, help with scheduling appointments or just chat and share some free candy. From guiding you through the thesis process, to monitoring and supporting your honors degree progress, your honors academic advising team is here to help! As a reminder, though you are only required to meet with your Honors College academic advisor once per year, feel free to meet with your HC academic advisor whenever you have questions. Below, we’ll leave you with some tips and resources that should be helpful over the coming terms:

Honors College student learning space
The Honors College student learning space, the SLUG, opens Tuesday, September 24. Located in Learning Innovation Center 340, the SLUG offers students study spaces, snacks and free printing. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursdays, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, noon to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday. For the first weeks, there will be minor renovations in the SLUG.
“Forgot Your Lunch?” Station Available in SLUG
The Honors College is back with a “Forgot Your Lunch?” station for you to have a snack or light lunch if you ever need it. Whether you need food because you forgot your lunch, are low on money or simply need a snack, please help yourself to this free resource. The resource is self-serve and can be accessed any time that the SLUG is open in the kitchen area.
The student computer lab and lounge (the SLUG) on the third floor of LInC 340 will be open:
- Monday-Thursday – 7:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Friday – 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
- Saturday – noon to 6 p.m.
- Sunday – 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.
