The Oregon State University Honors College (HC) has named Vincent Remcho from the Department of Chemistry and Michelle Inderbitzin of the School of Public Policy as Honors College Eminent Professors for 2016.

HC Eminent Professor awards recognize the contributions of faculty members to the education and mentorship of students in the Honors College. “Dr. Inderbitzin’s and Dr. Remcho’s innovative teaching and dedicated mentorship have enriched the honors community,” said HC Associate Dean Tara Williams. “They have provided honors students with incredible opportunities within and beyond the classroom.”

Since Dr. Vincent Remcho began teaching at Oregon State University in 1998, he has taught over 40 courses, including honors general chemistry, and mentored many graduate and undergraduate students, five of whom were in the Honors College. A significant contributor in his field, Dr. Remcho has written over 250 scientific articles for peer-reviewed journals, and he was named the Oregon Outstanding Scientist of the Year for 2015 by the Oregon Academy of Science. He also participates regularly in community service activities, such as using chemical demonstrations to further science education for early elementary students. In recognition of his excellence as a scholar and educator, Vincent Remcho was selected by a panel of peers as an HC Eminent Professor for 2016.

Dr. Michelle Inderbitzin has been teaching and mentoring in the Honors College for over a decade. She regularly teaches SOC 444H “Inside-Out: Prisons, Communities, and Prevention,” which takes place in a state correctional facility, where HC students learn alongside incarcerated youth. Dr. Inderbitzin has also published 17 articles in peer-reviewed journals and three textbooks, and her campus service includes participation on the advisory board for Undergraduate Research, Innovation, Scholarship, and Creativity and service on a range of university committees concerned with service-learning and civic engagement. In recognition of her dedicated support for Honors College students and their research, a faculty panel selected Michelle Inderbitzin as the 2016 Sandy and Elva Sanders Eminent Professor in the Oregon State University Honors College.

The HC Eminent Professor awards are made possible through the generosity of Honors College donors, particularly Ruth Beyer and Joseph (Sandy) and Cheryl Sanders.
