INTO OSU Suspension/Dismissal bearing on Admission

INTO OSU students placed on suspension or dismissal (due to academic or attendance standing) will only be considered for admission to an OSU degree-seeking program or another INTO OSU program once they have satisfied all OSU transfer student requirements. Students wishing to return to a language-only program (Academic English, General English, College Year Abroad) may also be considered after a period no less than 2 years from date of suspension.

OSU Transfer Requirements

  • 36 quarter hour (24 semester) graded, transferable credits from one or more regionally accredited colleges and universities.
  • Applicants transferring from a recognized college or university outside the U.S. must have
  • a cumulative grade-point average of 2.5 or equivalent AND be eligible to return to the most recent institution attended.
  • Applicants transferring from a regionally accredited college or university in the U.S. must have a cumulative grade-point average of 2.25, meet OSU’s Math and Writing requirements for transfer students, AND be eligible to return to the most recent institution attended.
  1. Consideration for admission as a transfer student will be based only upon credit earned after the term of suspension.
  2. Any academic credits earned during the Pathway program will be transferred to the OSU student transcript by the end of the first term of attendance.
  3. Students admitted to an OSU degree-program in this manner will be returned to Probationary status in their first term. Students are then expected to maintain the satisfactory academic progress standards set out in Academic Regulation 22.
  • Good Standing – Students with a term and cumulative GPA of 2.0 or above.
  • Academic Warning – Students with a term GPA below 2.0.
  • Academic Probation – Students who have attempted1 24 or more credits at OSU and have an OSU cumulative GPA below 2.0 will be placed on Academic Probation. Students who attain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better are removed from Academic Probation.
  • Academic Suspension -Students on Academic Probation who have a subsequent term GPA below 2.0.
  • Suspended students are denied all privileges of the university including living in any university-recognized living groups.
  • Suspended students will be reinstated after 2 years OR after completing 24 transferable quarter credits with a GPA of 2.50 or higher for these credits.The Academic Standing Committee addresses requests for exception to Academic Regulation 22. Suspended students who are considering filing a Request for Exception to Academic Regulation 22 should meet with the head advisor of their college to discuss their options. The preparation process generally requires several days; students should allow sufficient time before the ASC meeting to gather and prepare all materials. Students with specific questions should contact their college head advisor, or the Registrar’s Office.

 

1 An attempt comprises a final grade in a course where the grade is: A, A–, B+, B, B–, C+, C, C–, D+, D, D–, F, S, U, P, NP, I/Alternate Grade (where the Alternate Grade is one of these grades), W, or Y.

INTO OSU Students suspended prior to December 2011 will be considered for reinstatement once they have satisfied the OSU reinstatement provision as outlined in AR 22, subsection d., outlined below, or by exceptional circumstance at the discretion of OSU Director of International Admissions.

AR 22. Satisfactory Academic Standing (for Undergraduate Students)
Oregon State University expects students to maintain satisfactory academic progress toward degree completion. At the conclusion of each term, grade point averages are calculated and academic standings determined for students seeking a baccalaureate degree according to the criteria outlined below. Students whose standings evidence a lack of satisfactory progress will be warned of this condition and advised to seek help from their academic advisors.

  1. Academic Warning: Students with a term GPA below 2.0 will be placed on Academic Warning.
  2. Academic Probation: Students who have attempted1 24 or more credits at OSU and have an OSU cumulative GPA below 2.0 will be placed on Academic Probation. Students who attain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or better are removed from Academic Probation.
  3. Academic Suspension: Students who are on Academic Probation and have a subsequent term GPA below 2.0 will be placed on Academic Suspension. Academic Suspension is recorded on the student’s academic record. Students who are academically suspended are denied all the privileges of the institution and of all organizations in any way connected to it, including any university-recognized living group.
  4. Reinstatement to the University: Suspended students will be considered for reinstatement to the university after two years or completion of a minimum of 24 quarter credits of transferable college-level work at an accredited college or university, with a GPA of 2.5 or above.
