English Language Requirement Alternatives

Individuals who have completed a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution in the U.S. or other approved English speaking country.

Citizens of the following countries: Australia, Belize, Canada, Ghana**, New Zealand, Scotland, West Indies, and United Kingdom.

** Exemptions for citizens of African countries are considered on a case-by-case basis if the medium of instruction is English.

Pathway Only: Citizens of countries where English is one of the official languages and the medium of instruction is in English. Arrival testing will determine actual placement.

Direct Undergraduate Test Alternatives

  • All scores must be less than two years old as of the start of the term requested.
  • IELTS: Minimum score of 6.5
  • IGCSE / International A Levels English: Minimum grade of C (pass)
  • IB Diploma: Language A – Language and Literature (HL) with a minimum score of 5
  • SAT Reading: Minimum score of 500
  • ACT English: Minimum score of 21
  • AP English L & C: Minimum score of 3
  • US Post-Secondary Institution minimum 36 quarter transfer credits (must include two English composition courses or one English composition and one speech communication course w/ grades C- or better)
  • INTO OSU Academic English: Completion of AE Level 6 with a minimum B average and P (pass) in all Pass/No pass classes

Undergraduate Pathway Test Alternatives

All scores must be less than two years old as of the start of the term requested.

  • IELTS: Minimum score of 5.5
  • IGCSE / International A Levels English: Minimum grade of C (pass)
  • IB Diploma: Language A – Language and Literature (HL or SL) with a minimum score of 5
  • SAT Reading: Minimum score of ??
  • ACT English: Minimum score of ??
  • AP English L & C: Minimum score of ??
  • US Post-Secondary Institution minimum 36 quarter transfer credits (must include two English composition courses or one English composition and one speech communication course w/ grades C- or better)
  • INTO OSU Academic English: Completion of AE Level 4 with a minimum C average and P (pass) in all Pass/No pass classes
