The Center for Teaching and Learning is offering a Fall ’26 Teaching and AI Faculty Learning Community. Participants will develop and refine teaching strategies to meet the challenges brought about by ubiquitous generative AI tools, whatever your stance on AI in the classroom. This learning community is a chance to think through what good teaching looks like now that AI is part of the landscape, alongside pedagogical specialists and teaching colleagues from across the university. The community includes some hands-on work with AI tools, but the overall focus is on teaching strategy, not tool mastery.
Participants will explore strategies to strengthen teaching and learning in the context of generative AI, while working through real concerns like academic integrity and bias.
Structure
The AI learning community is a professional development program that provides $1,000 to instructors who:
- Fully participate in all synchronous learning community meetings and asynchronous Canvas learning activities.
- Create plans to implement strategies that address AI in teaching in an on-campus course (Corvallis or Cascades) planned for Winter or Spring ’27.
- Present their ideas, projects, or experiences about teaching with AI at the final learning community meeting (showcase).
The learning community will blend five required Zoom meetings with online learning activities in Canvas throughout the term starting on Monday, Oct 5. The time commitment will average approximately 1-½ to 2 hours per week. The learning community will meet on Tuesdays from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 13 and 27, Nov. 10 and 24, and Dec. 1.
Eligibility
Oregon State University academic faculty who regularly teach credit-based Corvallis or Cascades campus courses are eligible to apply. AI beginners and skeptics are welcome. Space is limited.
This learning community is focused around on-campus teaching. It is not for development or redevelopment of Ecampus courses. Faculty support for Ecampus courses can be found at Ecampus Faculty Support.
Application
To be considered for participation in this learning community, please submit your application by Wednesday, September 23. CTL values the participation of faculty from a wide variety of disciplines and course levels.
Participants will be notified of acceptance by September 30. Upon acceptance, the instructor, the instructor’s unit head, and CTL will sign an MOU regarding FLC participation and funding. Payment will be made after all program requirements are completed.
